I love Zappa too, but why Hot Rats? Though "Peaches in Regalia" did win major respect in the Jazz community. My favorite Zappa album would have to be either, "Overnight Sensation" or "Live at the Philmore East" also really like "Weasels Ripped My Flesh". Hell...I like them all!Originally Posted by kiwibank

"There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17... I been sayin' that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherfucker before you popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin' made me think twice… The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd."
All Led Zeppelin albums
Pink Floyd - "The Wall", "Wish You were here"
Metallica - "The Black Album", "Ride the lightning", "Reload"
All Tool albums
Soundgarden - "Superunknown"
Fuel - "Sunburn"
Neil Young - "After the gold rush", "Harvest"
Bush - "Sixteen Stone"
Guns n Roses - "Appetite for destruction"
Stone Temple Pilots - "Core"
Nirvana - "Nevermind", "In Utero", "Unplugged in New York"
Both "A Perfect Circle" albums (to date).
Creed - "My Own Prison", "Human Clay" (They destroyed themselves by making Weathered, and becoming hypocritical of their own message. And now, shitty live shows. They suck my left testicle).
The Goo Goo Dolls - "A Boy Named Goo" (Don't laugh, it was good)
Live - "Throwing Copper"
AC/DC - "Back In Black"
3 Doors Down - "The Better Life" (They've since produced an album that is 1/10th this effort. They're beginning to suck).
Pearl Jam - "Ten"
Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Californication", "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik"
I know I missed some, but I don't feel like thinking right now (typical of me).
You can't triple stamp a double stamp.
My favorite group of all time is Pink Floyd. I got into them back in Chico in the early 90's. A friend of mine and I did some shrooms one night and watched "The Wall". It was my first experience with PF. I had heard most of their songs on the radio over the years but I really didn't know much about them or the story behind "The Wall". While we were watching it I kept asking him "What the hell is going on?" He kept laughing and telling me to just pay attention. The next morning all I could remember about the movie was "Comfortably Numb" so I watched it a few more times and I've been consuming as much Pink Floyd as I can ever since. :) My PF collection is now close to 6 gigs of mp3's (studio albums, concerts, interviews, solo albums, compilations, etc) and several gigs of videos.
Depending on the type of music you like, there are several types of Pink Floyd that just might be what you are looking for.
My favorite is the spaced out trippy PF. "The Wall" and "Comfortably Numb" will always hold a special place in my heart, but I think I prefer their older songs over the newer stuff. Compared to the older stuff, the newer stuff seems to formulated. The older stuff is longer drawn out jams with very little words. "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun", "Echoes", "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", "Cymbaline"....pretty much anything from the Live In Pompeii video...are just incredible songs.
Albums to get if you like the spaced out trippy PF:
Atom Heart Mother - 1 star. One of their worst albums. "Atom Heart Mother" is a long jam (~ 30 minutes) but it doesn't rank up there with some of the better jams. "Alan`s Psychedelic Breakfest" is just horrible The rest of the songs are good, but more pop sounding.
Saucer Full of Secrets - 2 stars. Has "Set The Controls...." and "A Saucer Full Of Secrets" which are good, but they are the studio versions. The live versions are way better.
Meddle - 4 stars. Awesome album! "Fearless" is one of my top 3 pop songs, but this album is best known for "One of These Days I'm Going To Cut You Into Little Pieces" and "Echoes". Very nice version of Echoes.
More (Soundtrack) - 3 stars. Most of the songs on this album are short, around 4-5 minutes, but there's some great spaced out instrumentals.
UmmaGumma - 4 stars. It's a double album, but you can pretty much throw away the second CD. It's by far the worst PF album, but the first CD makes up for it big time! Killer versions of "Astronomy Domine", "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", "Set The Controls For The Heart Of the Sun", and "A Saucer Full Of Secrets".
Albums to get if you like a little mix between the long spaced out jams and formulated radio songs:
Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - 1 star. Their first album and not a very good one. "Intersteller Overdrive" is ok on this album, but it's one of my favorite live songs.
Dark Side Of The Moon - 4 stars. This album was on the top 100 album charts for over 10 years. "Time", "Us And Them", "Money". All incredible songs. There's also a song called "The Great Gig In The Sky" which is a 4+ minute orgasm. You have to hear it know what I'm talking about. :) Their first real "concept album" as well, and like most of them it is about Syd Barret...one of their founding members who went completely insane. :cross
Animals - 4 stars. Another concept album, but this one isn't about Syd, it's about work, the world, and politics. Great album. "Dogs" is a great song, especially if you've ever worked for a large corporation.
Wish You Were Here - 4 stars. A concept album about Syd Barrett. Syd actually showed up during the recording of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Nobody had seen him in years and they didn't recognize him for about an hour or so. He mentioned to them that he was ready to join the band again and then he left and they haven't seen him since. "Welcome To The Machine" and "Wish You Were Here" are classics!
Obscured By Clouds (Soundtrack) - 2 stars. It's an ok album. Only a couple memorable songs on it. "Free Four" is on the radio every once in a while.
Albums to get if you want to get depressed:
The Wall - 4 stars. Their greatest concept album, and probably the greatest ever from anybody. Just an incredible job of writing by Roger Waters. The movie is also just as incredible. Every single song on the the double CD is awesome and a necessary part of the overall story...although the movie leaves out a few songs and moves the order around a bit
The Final Cut - 3 stars. A concept album that extends the message from "The Wall". Most, if not all, of the songs on this album are songs that didn't make it onto "The Wall". It's a hard album to listen to, very whiney and depressing. There are still some great songs on it, though.
And then there's the After Waters Pink Floyd where they aren't really concept albums, but they aren't pop songs and they aren't really spaced out jams either...it's like they are trying to find their own groove. As long as you don't go in expecting too much you won't be disappointed:
Momentary Lapse Of Reason - 3 stars. Most songs are very good on this album. "Learning To Fly" is great!
The Division Bell - 3 stars. Their last studio album to date. Very much like Momenatary Lapse Of Reason. Some very good songs on this album.
