    Family Guy

I was just remembering how the Family guy show was cancelled after a short run.... I couldn't figure out why fox would can it... I know I loved it but how many of you actually watched it.. I cant believe there are not even reruns. Could it be the adult humor?? Look at the Simpsons and how much humor is directed to adults now.
    P2P is cool....But P3P.. Oh boy!!

It was too good and cutting edge for network TV. They have reruns of it on the cartoon network and it does very well in its time slot.

Family Guy was a great show. It not only provided great entertainment, but also pushed the bounds for American prime time tv.

I'm glad Cartoon Network has the balls to play that, and Futurerama.

Ironic that a childrens cartoon network is the one pushing the boundries of adult humor.

Yeah, there's supposed to be 35 new episodes by January of 2005, and much of the old writers have retured, and all of the voice actors have also returned. January is probably an optimistic estimate, but either way it's good to see that Gail Berman has noted the success of the DVD's and will bring the show to the airwaves again. There's also talk of a possible family guy movie, but Seth McFarlane (creator of Family Guy) said it would have to be on hold while he produces more Family Guy episodes, and also a show called American Dad that he is working on extensively, which is a sort of derrivative of Family Guy (Family Guy meets All in the Family, as Seth says, so it will be politically oriented).
www.Familyguyfiles.com and www.planet-familyguy.com have a lot of info.

Note: The episodes might not be on Fox though. Fox has commisioned new epsiodes, but they only have an option of whether they want to air the new episodes. The other choice they have is to sell the righs to air the new episodes to Cartoon Network. So the episodes are being produced without knowing exactly where they will end up.

I heard they got too many complaints for its crass content at 7pm CST. Something like that would fly on Comedy Central, but not prime-time network TV.

It might be tamed a little for the new season... we'll see.

In an interview Seth stated the most likely reason for the cancellation of Family Guy was that Fox was too confident that the show would succeed on any night. The show originally had a very nice time slot, 8:30 Sunday, after the Simpsons, which guaranteed good ratings. They gave the time slot to Malcolm in the Middle, to give that show a chance, and moved Family Guy to a different time, assuming that the show could pull down good ratings anywhere in the week. They were wrong, and continued to bounce the show around to different times to the point where people couldn't even find the show.
The fact that the show was very crude played a factor too, as is evidenced by the unaired(at least on Fox) episode When You Wish Upon A Weinstein. The headmaster at Seth McFarlane's high school even tried to keep the show down by convincing certain companies not to support the show by not advertising during it.

Family Guy is seriously the greatest show ever - I own both DVD packs, and I watch them all the time!

Seriously, if you've never watched it, check it out now - Cartoon Network, Monday - Thursday at 10:30 pm (central time, that is). Or just buy the DVDs - they're worth it.

Family guy only had a small cult following loosing viewers to other prime time shows. The DVD sales sold like acid at a grateful dead concert so they realised that the market was a bit bigger then they had thought. That lead up to a movie deal in progress and the possible return of the series to fox
