    Cool Overnet Upload/Download speed restrictions

I just joined Zeropaid so I would like to salute everyone in here. I've been reading Zeropaid for quite a while though so I am not a total blue.

Now that I said that, I would like to bring to your attention one problem with rewarding fast uploaders. I for one am forced to limit my upload speed to 10KB/S whenever I am downloading. Otherwise I leave my Overnet open with full upload speed. I am forced to reduce my upload speed to 10KBS because anything higher will reduce my download speed considerably. I know some of you will ask me to change ISP but that's not an option where I live. I understand this option was created for those who limit their up speed for the sake of slowing others downloads, but that is not true in my case.

With past versions, I was able to manage my bandwidth. I would reduce my UP speed to 10KBS (not that slow) when downloading. Once done I would open the speed back up. Rarely did I stop Overnet unless I was forced by a crippled Windows (I believe Overnet has a memory leak).

Anyway, I just thought I would bring this to the attention of the developers since now people like me are forced to reduce their UP speed anyway but it takes them twice as long to get the same file, therefore twice as long to open their upload speed. This whole system hurts the network in my opinion.

I have a 1024 DSL by the way. I know I am supposed to have at least a 20kbps up speed but trust me anything over 10 will reduced my down speed to 60kbps which in a way negates v0.53 restrictions. I share files over 200mb.

    Regards,

    Linkin' Park.

It isn't the 10 K that is crippling your downloads, it is more likely you have the max ammount of connections set too high. try setting it between 75-125. Also, on overnet, as long as you are feeding 10K a second into the network you will be able to acheive your maximum download speed (at least on your connection)

Give me a list of what you have your settings at, and i will look over them and see if i can spot anything that may be causing you trouble.

Post My network settings are as follow:

    Reply to Psilaxs:

My settings under v0.53 are as follow:
    Max Download Speed (KB/s) = 50 ( 0 machine limit )
    Max Upload Speed (KB/s) = 10 ( 0 machine limit )
    Line Speed Down (KB/s) = 120 ( Optional )
    Max Connections = 45

I agree with you 10K doesn't cripple my download speed. It's anything above 10K that does.

With v0.52 I was able to use the following settings:
    Max Download Speed (KB/s) = 0 ( 0 machine limit )
    Max Upload Speed (KB/s) = 10.1 ( 0 machine limit )
    Line Speed Down (KB/s) = 120 ( Optional )
    Max Connections = 45

Once I am done downloading I would just use my machine limits:
    Max Download Speed (KB/s) = 0 ( 0 machine limit )
    Max Upload Speed (KB/s) = 0 ( 0 machine limit )
    Line Speed Down (KB/s) = 120 ( Optional )
    Max Connections = 45

Now with v0.53 to use the same scheme, I must: ( Anything under 20 KB/s upload triggers restrictions with v0.53 )
    Max Download Speed (KB/s) = 0 ( 0 machine limit )
    Max Upload Speed (KB/s) = 20 ( 0 machine limit )
    Line Speed Down (KB/s) = 120 ( Optional )
    Max Connections = 45

Please keep in mind that if I could play with my bandwidth to get a 50/50 solution, I wouldn't have posted this thread but if I set my upload to 12 KB/s my download speed is crippled to max of 11 KB/s despite Overnet indicating a max of 60 KB/s. Even my normal web browsing is slowed down. With v0.52 scheme, I could reach a speed of 110 KB/s ( multiple downloads ) down while offering a 10.1 KB/s up, until done. I would then offer my full upload speed to the community.

I think Overnet developers are on the wrong track. What P2P developers are trying today is force uploads. Those who do not wish to upload by sheer greed will not upload no matter what system is imposed on them. Those who do not wish to upload by fear of absurd laws and RIAA crack downs will not upload unless we offer them some kind of anonymity. I therefore think the P2P developers shouldn't try to fight greed but encourage those who are afraid by developing some type of privacy protection system. We should maintain some ethics and not try to impose a way of life on the P2P community including leeches or we will end up concentrating resources on the wrong subject thus hindering any future progress.

We are today in a race against time. An anonymous technology must come or we will lose against the corporate machine. Decentralization was a breakthrough, privacy must be the next and soon. Fighting leeches is not a priority, in my opinion it's not even a necessity, all it does is create compromises that slows leeches but also uploaders.

This is my opinion and I though I would share it with you.

    Regards,

    Linkin' Park.

Unless they changed how the ratio works in v .53 i don't see why you would have a problem.
You could try setting max connection to 75 (helps obtain more sources) or simply go back to .52

What is your maximum sustainable upload speed? (Not burst) Because even with a 128 killobit upload, setting it to 10.1 still leaves enough bandwidth for websurfing etc.

    Post Maximum sustainable upload speed.

Sustainable upload speed of 24.x KB/s. I am supposed to have a 1024/512 K line. I have done 1024 but my line never gave me more than half of the 512.

They did change the ration in the new version (0.53). To get max download you have to set your upload to 20kB/s.

    Post Switched back.

I switched back to v0.52. If anyone reading this thread wish to revert to v0.52, this is the official (safe) URL to use:
