    Freenet real use?

All i seem to stumble upon are vast amounts of porn, i was just browsing for a movie being my first time using the program i had no idea what it would contain however all i seemed to be able to retrieve was porn. At a really slow speed as well!!! Can anybody give me some tips on using the program or maybe even tell me if its any good?

Apparently you need to let your hub run for a couple days before the network is anywhere near useable

And then you'll find even more porn. The whole idea of freenet is total anonymity. Which is great if you live in Saudi or China or some other place where free speech isn't tolerated, but if you live in a country where you can act and speak freely then you don't need it....and what is it that must be handled so secretly in the free world...yup, kiddie porn. That's the kind of stuff you'll be finding, probably hosting, on freenet. There might be other reasons why people use it but mostly you're going to be providing a service for a lot of perverts.

I used it once.. while back and it just really was slow.. and obviously their free speech wasnt important enough to listen to, or want with the speeds of a turtle crawling in the network.. and you be hosting files and data as well and distributing it. I like the idea of that, but not if its child porn or something like hate group.

I used freenet a long time ago didn't get very far with it (way to slow). I also tried Frost but my AV caught a virus that it tried to give me and I wasn't even d/l anything, I didn't even get a chance to figure out the POS. It may be better now but I have no idea. So I guess I wasn't of much help since my opinon is not exactly current but that was my experience at any rate :aim

I installed this just out of curiosity. Unless you stay on it for a while to build up speed it's way too slow. It has some non porn content after all.

yerp just found a sick ass site linking to kiddie porn myself, no wonder hardly anybody uses it. Just makes you think what the real use of some p2p apps could be

Sounds like you're buying into the goverment's excuse for clamping down on p2p. The latest proposed bill sets out the strictest punishments for 'camming' movies, but it's presented on the merits of stamping out child porn.

The people using p2p for that are in the minority.

Oh no nothing wrong with sharing. If the government wants to stop p2p then even more reason to continue sharing. However i feel that once a program gets into the situation like freenet then it becomes very dodgy. morallly i dont want to use the program even however its a quality piece of programming you have to admit that.

I like the idea of it, but the only thing that seemed widly avalible was porn images. I could never get an mp3 or video to download.

I couldn't care less what others use it for or what is being distributed via my node as long as it's secure and I get what I want. Unfortunately last time I used it I didn't get much anything, but it was a long time ago.
