    Exclamation Overnet warning?

do you think, this is true? or only a bad joke...:

got this from Overnet search, looking for overnet or overBOT:

    Major Overnet warning!!!!

Some apparently leaked information has come to our attention and if it’s true, using Overnet could put you in jail!

Allegedly the maker of edonkey who goes by the name Swampy was busted by the Fed’s a couple of months ago. As a part of a plea bargain to keep himself out of jail he agreed to let them have full access rights to his web site. Swampy did NOT create Overnet the Fed’s did however by appending Swampy’s name to it and distributing it via his web site meant it would be trusted through out the community. They used Microsoft’s .net software on purpose because it easily and secretly allows them to track users based on IP and Mac addresses via a special proxy server, It logs what their sharing and what their downloading each time they connect to Overnet. This information is also passed on to otherlaw enforcement agencies world wide.Overnet is NOT server less as it claims; the GUI just hides them along with many hidden features like the proxy server connection. They only want you to see what they want you to see.

Bottom line is if you already use or have used Overnet they already know who you are where you are and what you have done. Could be only a matter of time before they come a knocking!

P.S. Also the forum moderators at the edonkey web site have been replaced by Fed posers so be careful what you post their.

This is old news. Was first brought up on ShareReactor, but this is totally false. Just a rumor from the beginning of Overnet. If the Feds owned Overnet, there wouldnt be millions of dollars worth of media flowing through it's pipes at any given time.

    Entrapment anyone?
Actually, it's not entrapment. That's a misguided, commonly quoted Internet "thing", kind of like the whole Internet Privacy Act, signed by Bill Clinton.

This includes the internet privacy act thing, and also addresses the entrapment issue.

That's just for reference. We all know that the Overnet thing was a hoax.

No it's true. Look, it's written in actual words and it's on the real actual net so it must be. And you know those feds are cleverer than people realise, they invented those special secret servers and did such a good job that you never get a disconnection. They had to do that because disconnections can really screw up net based brainwave scanning software. Amazing thing is they used the same software on fastrack and found most Kazaa users don't have any brainwaves. yup.

Actually ken it would be entrapment read your own link

Entrapment must comprise persuading an individual to perform an act he otherwise would not engage in if here were not subject to persuasion. None of that even comes into play, however, in the situation, for entrapment as a legal defense is applicable only in refuting the actions engaged in by an individual subject to persuasion by law enforcement agents in criminal cases and has no bearing on the actions of private entities such as the RIAA, MPAA, BSA, etc., seeking information for the prosecution of civil cases.

Since the government would be running the server facilitating the transfer of illegal works. Not a private entity which would not be subject to entrapment issues.
