I've seen the original, I don't think the new one will be able to beat it.

    Some Brief Spoilers

It's ****ng amazing. And this is coming from someone who has been a fan of the genre since Night of the Living Dead 1968.

People complain because it doesn't follow the original to the T, it has running zombies and humans only turn into zombies after being bitten. These people aren't open minded enough and well probably hate it indefinitely.

For those who are looking forward to it you will not be disappointed. It's ****ing FANTASTIC!!!

EDIT: Didn't realise that swear word wasn't automatically censored and my post made me look like a moron. :)

I love horror movies but you know people today arent gonna bye the lurking, strolling zombies that the characters just cant seem to escape. I cant wait to go see it.

'Evil Dead' is fun to watch (especially the second part) but you cannot really compare it to 'Night of the Living Dead' and 'Dawn of the Dead' which are very smart movies full of social criticism... I hope the new one doesn't try to make a splatter movie from it.

should be alot better since costumes, animation, special effects have improved drastically for the last 10 years.

That's true. I never really liked the Evil Dead movie because it was too far fetched. I like my horror / sci-fi to be believeable to a degree. Romero's movies have that believeability, as does DOTD 04.

I saw the 10 min preview..the only thing I didn't like was that you become a zombie as soon as you die..like in seconds...no 1/2 hour wait....to make sure your dead.

I am a fan of the Zombie Genre... and I enjoyed this film immensely. I was hesitant at first (running zombies? come on), but the movie was good on many levels. Visually, the film was stunning, and it did have zombies getting their heads blown off (always a plus). They were able to show the world falling prey to the zombies in a rather disconcerting manner better than any zombie flick I have seen (much more chaotic than the recent 28 days later).

I would tell people that were fans of the original that it is not as much a remake as a reimagining. It shares similar thematic elements, but they aren't the same characters or events. I would go and see this if you are a fan of George Romero's original zombie mythos (perhaps this will allow him to create his fourth movie in the "dead" series), post-apocalyptic suspense, or action movies with things going BOOM!

(Edit... BTW, my new avatar is a part of a person blowing up a watermelon on a helmet on his head, not a zombie having its head blown off... I am not sick y'know)
"There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17... I been sayin' that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherfucker before you popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin' made me think twice… The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd."

Two different movies that are both great but for different reasons.

Evil Dead II - A++ Great satirical horror flick. Classic.
Dawn of the Dead - A++ Greatest zombie flick of all time. Classic.

    Do go watch them both.

The title of this thread is misleading... Dawn of the Dead topped Passion this week. Not to imply Dawn of the Dead's first weekend was better than Passion's. It's just that Passion was at #1 for the last 3 weeks, and Dawn finally brought it down with $28 million. Passion got some triple-digit millions for it's first weekend....
