    In 2000 out XP

Hi to all. I am trying to help a friend (very beautiful one!) She has Windows XP Prof installed and does not like it as much as her previous Windows 2000!
So she asked her very friendly neighbour (me) if I could put 2000 back for her.
Now she does not want to format her hard drive and lose evrything, So could I just install Win 2000 without it asking to formatt hard drive?
    Thank you.

You can't install 2000 over XP, however here are some suggestions. If you have a spare hard drive of sufficient size you can put this in another PC, make a basic installation of 2000 or XP, then use the file and settings xfer wizard to configure it from your friend's PC, then format your friends pc,install 2000, re install the programs, then re xfer the files and settings using the wizard again. She'll have all her familiar programs, bookmarks, emails, etc. You have to like your friend a lot to do this. I hope she likes you too.

Here is a simpler suggestion: Keep XP but use the classic desktop, switch the control panel to classic view. Go into system properties>Advanced>Performance>settings and adjust for best performance. You can use the custom option here if you prefer. This will give you a PC that mostly looks like 2000 and performs better.

Suggestion 3: Also consider using XPlite to strip out the pretty GUI stuff and other unwanted features. This is particularly useful on a PC with limited HDD space or performance.

Suggestion 4: use google and search for all the sites that confirm that XP outperforms 2000, has better built in hardware recognition, is more stable/recoverable and easier to use, is better for digital photography, music, and games. They are mostly at microsoft.com :;)

Suggestion5: Just be really really nice to her until she stops thinking about her PC and starts thinking about you.

IIRC, the file and settings transfer wizard is only one way (all windows -> XP)...not XP -> 2000.

    I'd recommend the "simpler suggestion"

turn on the classic desktop and turn off all the crappy visual effects.

yes you're right...one way only...to XP...the 2000 User State Migration tool is too limited to be useful. So that just leaves the easy options. It's always good news at ZeroPaid.

I'd recomend you stop being the "nice guy" and charge her ass like anyone else, you'll thank me for it down the road.

Your friend doesnt know her head from her cute ass when it comes to W2000 or XP, so just turn off the fade effects, use the classic look, disable ALL services that arent needed (blackviper.com) and generally clean things up.

Offer to help her once a month in exchange for food and money . . . its the least she can do.

I would charge her sex.. yeah, the price she pays would be steep. =) actually buy a new hard drive, install windows 2000 on it.. and transfer any important documents to cd, and load them up on win2000.
