the formats you will need are svcd higher quality and lower quality vcd these can be burnt with a cd burner and played on a lot of dvd players fiisrt make sure you dvd player supports svcds and vcds then d/l films in these formats or you can d/l in other formats and convert them there are also new dvd players that support playback of xvid divx etc i only use overnet for tv rips i tend to use dc++ and irc for films have fun and above all else enjoy

You can buy a dvd player that supports xvid and divx, but good luck finding a good name brand in the US... Then you can burn and play all the popular .avi files from a CDR in a DVD player. In fact I was thinking about getting this one:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=50599

Has anyone tried this guy? Yep, I know it's kinda shady through ebay and all, and no-name, but the guy has good feedback on it, and it seems to support everything I can think of.

Or you can use VCDs like matt suggested.

Can you browse folder structures with no problem? A lot of my burned movies are in folder files burned to CDRs, with the cover art and other things too, like if the movie is in two parts.

So if the top layer is a folder, you can play the .avi within the folder? That's one thing I'm worried about.

Or if you have a CDR full of jpgs from a vacation for example in one folder, and another from a bday party in another, you can browse the folders on the player?
