college lan slow speeds?

im using the experimental client and i continue to get extremely slow sppeds despite multiple seeds and many peers.

my share rating is consitently over 3, yet my download speeds rarely ever go about 20 kB/sec. i have seen other users when i click on advanced surpass me and finish much sooner then me.

someone please HELP !

college lan's block P2P or attempt to, some are more successful than others.

Yes, not to mention there are always certain people who drain the networks ruthlessly and dont conserve any for anyone else.

BT is very fussy about routers and firewalls. Without BT ports forward to your computer, you wont be able to properly use BT. You can ask the admin, but I expect they will laugh at you for being cheeky enough to ask!

i am going through sh** right now and tis geting pissed

try disabling file sharing and printer resources, under network properties. thats what i did to increase speeds, you might get better luck

You might have to go with another client...my college blocks just about everything. Soulseek is the only that seems to work on my lan.

If Soulseek works, Ares and Filetopia often do as well. Not being a soulseek user or knowing your needs, I don't know if that is of any benefit to you.

I have the same problem at my school, BT never gets above 1.5 k/s. Blubster is the only thing that works well here. For stuff other than music I use FTP which most schools dont block.

I was using the udated bit torrent download and was getting the same problem till I installed Shadow to work with the torrent. Since then I have jumped from an average of 8kb to an average of 35kb. Sometimes the download program does make the difference.

Using a school connection you could be SOL. There was a news story not to long ago about certain schools throttling P2P network traffic on their connections. Not to mention prying thru your E mails and what not. Now use that connection, that my tax dollars pay for, to further your education and stop downloading free porn!
