This being a very advanced and thurough site, and no discussions on the P2P forum I was wondering if and why somone hasn't devoloped a comperable program to Audio Galaxy?I guess it was how it was designed having a central network,or thats what I've heard, but was just curious about my all time favorite P2P.
It was nice while it lasted, but it lacked a good interface and good files.
It'd be nice to see something more improved and of its' kind.
What do you mean good files?! Audiogalaxy had one of the best selections of files out there in its time. That was THE network for rare and hard to find music. Rare music, bootlegs galore... Ahh, audiogalaxy, how I miss thee. But yes, its design was ultimately the reason for its demise. It was too easy to shut down. With it being centralized, and also with it working through your browser, you shut down the website, and you have an unusable program.
well... there is GLT Polaine and the other clone... but you will be the only one there (and there is no community of the same type as AG--ahh to have people sending me recommendations again)
"There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17... I been sayin' that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherfucker before you popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin' made me think twice… The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd."
GLT Poliane is very similar to audiogalaxy, minus the spyware/adware. It is just about the only one like it though, and is fairly small.
EDIT:
wingnut beat me to it... I had the thread open in a tab so I didn't see his reply

Ahhh yes.....I miss AG too! But there's not much point living in the past.
I used a couple of programs to enhance AudioGalaxy. DopeFlish and another I can't remember.
The DopeFlish Satellite is a program which uses the Audiogalaxy network to download
mp3's. It is designed as a replacement to the standard Audiogalaxy satellite.
It has many features / improvements :
* Built In Browser, no need for the satellite to open an external web browser
(like Internet Explorer)
* Time Left To Complete Transfer, now you know how long there is left to download
or send a file
* Run Multiple Users, you can have many different usernames on the one satellite,
just a couple of clicks and you can be logged on as another user
* Hang Up Modem or Shutdown Computer After Transfers End or At Particular Time,
you can set the satellite to shutdown at a particular time or after it has been
idle for a certain number of minutes
* Built In Search Box, no need to open the Audiogalaxy site to search, just type
the song you want in the box and hit enter!
* Standard Window Size Or Maximised, standard window size for sending / recieving
files, to view the Audiogalaxy site, automatically goes into maximised mode.

I don't know if we are talking about 2 different AG's, but I'm talking about the website based AG with a program that downloads the files.Originally Posted by matt merch
Anyway, to explain my point. AG came out when Napster was still going on and WinMX was picking up speed. Napster had just started to get legal pressure and the focus was on "illegal downloading of music". AG wasn't that great because of it's interface, lets not even get into the network, most people didn't know OR understood how to use it properly. For that reason, files on that "network" were not as "available" or "good" as Napster or WinMX was. You could only get popular files, anything rare would probably downloaded from one "seeder".
Also, WinMX and Napster were far superior because of their "dummy proof" interface (Napster being the best). AG got targeted later on and died. Napster died as well, but it's death struggles were reported in the news. WinMX on the other hand still "survives" and has some good files and good people sharing on it, myself included.
BUT!! I still like AG and I still have good feelings towards it, I wouldn't mind seeing it come back.
Excuse my ignorance, napho, but what good is this program? If Audiogalaxy no longer exists (and it WAS a great program; I used it a lot) , then what value does this have? Or, does it some way, miraculously, still work?
What in the blue hell are you talking about? ZOriginally Posted by «°¤§téålth§t®îk餰»
