I have loads of P2P clients.
However, a couple will not connect no matter how long I wait. Another PC here has the same clients and the same firewall and the clients *will* connect.
The affected clients are Ares and Piolet. No problems connecting with all the others.
Same OS on both PCs, Win XP Pro SP1 and all updates.
I cannot figure it out...can anybody?
TIA.
Is one connected through a router, and the other not? If thats the case, you need to forward the ports.
If all else fails, Malicious Intent yourself.

No. They are both connected to the same router.Originally Posted by hawkburn

Thanks.
As good as I am at mind reading peoples computer settings, I will struggle with this one!If all else fails, Malicious Intent yourself.
The fact that it doesn't connect means that it has nothing to do with my guide. Ares is suppose to be very friendly when it comes to firewalls. No port forwarding is needed.
Ares can sometimes be a bit tempromental with joining. Select disconnect and connect a few times. Otherwise yes, it is a puzzle!
I'm not really malicious. I'm a nice guy.

Withe Ares sometimes you just need to disconnect and connect a couple of times. It's a greta program, just needs more users. Piolet definetly will not work if your firewall is in operation. You need to disconnect your firewall while using Piolet.
Well, from my self experience I can say, that not allways connect to the network/server these programs: kazaa, imesh, soulseek. With other p2p programs, I haven't had any probelms...
Port forwarding for all programs and games is a sinch for me. Except Ares I have had frequent problems with. It used to connect and work fine then stopped connecting. So I opened a few essential ports on my linksys router and still had difficulties. So for the hell of it did dmz hosting for a few mins still had trouble but eventually connected. Becuase of this I will not use Ares or Piolet.
