Guys and gals, hope someone is online as I've had to come into the office as my tinkering around has buggered up my internet connection. I was trying to add ports to allow bt to run properly but now I can't even access my broadband system. Bascially I click to connect, but in the bottom left hand of my task bar a note comes up 'connecting to bittorrent' with an 'earth' logo and the page that should be there (any page!) just comes up as not available. My modem is working but not sending or getting data. I think I must have screwed the port info for my internet connection. I'm on Windows XP. Has anyone got a foolproof IDIOT(!!!) guide to setting this right? My gf is killing me as she uses the web for work and can't access it. Any help appreciated!!!
Things I've tried:
Deleted all fs software
Tried restore (4am UK time today - sheer desperation!)
Am about to delete and reload Bulldog Broadband software
Filesearched to find any bittorrent files hidden or otherwise - no joy.
Panicked. Screamed. Apologised. Again & again! Applied sticking plaster to graze on forehead after gf threw disc at me!
Cheers C
Where exactly have you been playing around with ports? Your firewall? Which one? Your router? Which make/model? What do you mean by having an icon to connect to BT? There is no stage in using BT that you should have this. What client are you using? Where did you download it from?

If you are even slightly concerned about your BT speeds, please check this thread.

Reinstall Device Manager Driver disk.
I take it you have a modem to connect to broadband? Do you have a firewall running on XP or as a separate hardware device?
more infos please
They can Stop Napster the Company, BUT never Napster the Idea...
I agree with this sentiment...thats unlike any BT client I have ever heard ofOriginally Posted by Malicious Intent
The statement makes it sound like he has a bittorrent client that connects to some sort of nework....most likely its dubious...BT is not set up like that
As with the others I have to agree and say "more info please"
Just thought I'd mention the GREAT and EASY built in tool in XP system restore under the start menu, system tools. Just go back to yesterday or the day before and at least you will be back before you messed it up. So far, nothing I've done to my computer hasnt been able to be fixed with this tool. Its GREAT and doesnt delete your emails or files downloaded, just undoes the damage and programs you installed or settings you messed up. JUST A THOUGHT.....
GOOOD LUCK!!!!!
System restore never fixes anything! lol
Hard as ever and here to make you people believe...as long as there is one person to hold hope and dream...A GOD...will never die!
God I'm a moron. I'd set proxy as BT with the ports in IE. Went to tools, unclicked proxy, voila! Sorry to waste eveyones time but tx anyway. Skulks odd to corner with big D hat on. C
