unfortunately, many types of music formats are referred to as "lossy" compression...

which means if you convert it to another format, you're going to lose quality. there's no way to increase the quality of the file unless you have the original high quality source. (CD)

as for converting from one format to the other (i don't recommend it.) you can use dbpoweramp.

Well, it sounds like you have a low quality WMV and you want to make them much clearer and smoother, right? Got some bad news - you can't; you can only work with what you've got.

For example, if I have some rotten apples and I want to turn them into fresh apple sauce, it's not going to happen. The source (the source) are rotten, and they're going to make the apple sauce rotten also.

In other words, garbage in, garbage out.

what he said, my white-eye'd brother. ya can't make chicken soup outta chicken shit...but yea i know what you mean...i've tried transmuting lead to gold a few times myself.

Here's a couple of assumptions (yea i've heard the ass-u-me thing..so keep it to ya self)..hehe

If your wmv is video+audio..which i imagine it is..and you want to make it better or improve the quality you can do it one way...Acquire through alternative distribution means (read between the lines) *cough*Kazaa*Cought*lite*....hack...gag...wheeze.. *Direct connect***..whimper.

a program called snag it and set it up to capture video from the active window..excluding the cursor..check capture audio...then run the wmv file in windows media player (you'll need to go into options/preferences and turn OFF directx acceleration or 'hardware acceleration')..also click on the speaker icon in your system tray..under OPTIONS>Properties>Recording tick the think for desktop stereo...that way snag it will record the sound going out to ya speakers when you play the wmv file.

Bascially Snagit is a screencapture utility that lets you capture either still frames (jpg, pics of images of your desktop...a selected area of the desktop..or an active window open on ur desktop) you can check the capture video setting and select region if u want..select region allows you to draw a square around the area you want to capture..like the video portion of windows media player or you can select active window..i find selecting region works best..that way you can crop the area to capture.

Read the instructions in the help file for snagit..you can select the codecs you want to use..basically you are capturing and reencoding on the fly while the wmv is being played in media player.

I've done this for low quality bitrate .RM files and turned them in to nice AVI's..the image does improve a little based on your settings..but still unless the files are very rare or you lack the bandwidth to download better quality versions of the movies..i wouldn't recommend this method.

this is the best advice i can offer..if you don't understand any of it or parts of it..just best to forget it.

not sure this helped but for what it's worth (free)

i hope u got ur monies worth...
