I have windows media 6.4 player because 7.0 doesn't work right and is buggy for my old cheap windows 98 computer. I installed the K-Lite Codec pack to play the Avi and other movies but when I play them, I get a green screen but I do hear audio, just no video, only a dark green colored screen.
What's the problem and how can I fix this? Thanks
You need to un-install then re-install the codecs again. sometimes they get screwed up

If you dont want to see the green stuff on your media player I suggest you download the codec from divx.

This happen to me before. I would see green on my media player.
up to you though if you want to download it. this one contains adware.
btw after using this codec I dont see green on my media player and the video files etc play well.
peace
You know....now that we are talking about this kind of stuff I have been having a serious problem.
One day I started having playback problems for any avi and mpeg files.
Everytime I would play one, I would hear the sound, but the the screen would be black(not just regular black but "video black") which means it was trying to play back the video as well. I tried reinstalling Windows Media Player, the codecs, drivers, and eventually Windows itself only to get the problem again.
My hypothesis is that the problem appears after going through windows update, but to this day, I have not been able to figure out the problem.
Any ideas?
I'v had trouble with media palyers and codecs.
My approach is to not use windows media player.
I find that media player classic, real alternative, quicktime alternative, divx player + AC3 codec and whatever else it asks for when it encounters an unsupported format and videolan player cover everything.

Use DivX player.
I've had so many problems with media player recently (mainly picture freezing while sound carries on), but everything works hunky dory in DivX player.
I'm not big boned, I'M FAT !
I've had that happen before, but it's been a while. I think I used a combination of an xvid codec, and the fddshow codec. Try VideoLAN if nothing else.

In my experience, Media Player CLassic with the K-Lite Codec pack is the best for playing just about everything. VideoLan is also good.

Plays everything. Don't have to play with codecs.

your problem probably lies in the use of the ffdshow filter. Try uninstalling it. Also read this article. http://www.rita.lt/video_tools/help/green.htm
