Can't Change The Color Quality, or Screen Resolution. Please Help!

My sisters friend brought in her computer for me to take a look at. The computer was totally messed up and wouldn't even boot up. She had Windows 98.

Anyway's so I did a fresh install of Windows ME from the boot disks and got the windows running and everything for her, but I'm having 1 error, I can't change the color quality or screen resolution.

The graphics suck (16-bit), the screen is huge (1 step below 800x600), and I don't know how to fix it!

When booting up to the new OS for the first time, it went through and installed a bunch of stuff, and it installed basic graphics VGA or something like that.

I don't know if I need to download something or what. I looked at the graphics card and it's a Diamondbrand Multimedia. It didn't say what type or anything, and she doesn't have a disk for it. She lost all her disks when she was moving.

    Thank you for any help!!!

p.s. - The reason why I installed ME was because her system was for windows 98 and I didn't have a 98 disk. I only have 2000, Me, and XP. XP wouldn't handle her computer, 2000 is to incompatible, and Me was my only choice! :-)

try creating a MenuetOS boot disk, that will help determine if the issue is hardware or software http://www.menuetos.org/

you need the specific win me drivers for the video card, possibly chipset drivers for the board

driverguide.com is a good place to start, also the manufacturer of the board/video card is a good place to look for drivers (if they still exist)

    definately need graphics drivers...

download aida32 and/or belarc advisor and see if it says anything pertinant...

also do a search for the computer model number online to see if it says which graphics card the computer has.

Yeah, the sound works all right. When booting it up for the first time, it went through and installed just about everything. Just this dumb graphics. But I'm downloading that aida32 and going to see what it says.

thing is when you run through the 1st time, it uses default or generic video drivers to get you started

you still have to install the "real" drivers

Yeah notbob is right about this one. Driverguide.com is a great site. Dr.Driver was also a good site but they charge now to access their drivers. The company tha mfg the card went belly up and then were bought by another company so drivers from them doesn't look good. I went to their site and found quite a few modem drivers but no video drivers.
