aight this one is a hard one to figure out. I am behind a university firewall. The problem however is that I am not able to get good download speeds in dc++. I am able to connect in both active and passive modes. but the download and upload speeds will start fairly high then plummit rapidly. I have tried switching ports but with no luck. I am able to send files to others and have them get my files through the option in aol instant messanger. when I went in and changed my settings to aol proxy server only in aol instant messanger. can anyone help me. This is really annoying as I just want to login to a private hub and be able to freely share files. I am however unable to do this. any ideas. I know that kazaa is blocked behind my firewall, but I was able to get the free version of http-tunnel and connect just fine. the downloads were slow however. unfortunatly http-tunnel makes you pay now and I am unable to use it. plus it was slow so it was not a great solution to the problem. Anyone have any idea on how I can get download and upload speeds faster??
You mentioned the use of a proxy...have you tried applying a proxy to your general internet connection? theres a handy program called winproxy that can do that. It's possible that your school is limiting your speed to conserve bandwidth as well. I work in a college tech dept and i know we do all those things... I would suggest trying another flavor of DC (standard DC is decent, don't use dc++blue though, that's usually a permban in many hubs)
