    Here's a tip...
MP4 is the future, get a copy of foobar2000 or itunes to make some mp4's.

also foobar is great for encoding to a number of other formats like flac, ape,mpc etc.

check out the special version which has all the codecs.

    peace

I just use CDex with LAME set to 192 kbs and q=0
I would use VBR but my mp3 cdplayer seems to have trouble with those files sometimes

Also if you want higher quality that 320kbs MP3 you should look into lossless FLAC compression

Rip with EAC, secure mode and compress with LAME --alt-preset insane for 320kbps.

You could also consider lossless compression like APE or FLAC, they are a bit big now, but in a few years it won't be a problem (bigger HDs, faster connections) and you'll be glad you have your stuff with original CD quality and no less.

192 kbps using CDex. Never forget that a good media file also needs to be properly named and tagged. If the ID3 tags are wrong or missing a media file is pretty useless. My file names are always:

    Artist - Album - TrackNumber - TrackTitle.mp3

ID1 and ID2 include the above as well as year and genre. As long as things are complete I don't mind other formats. It's easy to change to "mine" if all the data is there.
