burning a data DVD?

is it possible to burn a collection of .avi files (from one folder) to a DVD+RW disk, delete them from my computer, then use those files to make .mpgs out of them later (with TMPGEnc)?....if that is possible, how do i do it using nero 6?

Burn an ISO or UDF DVD instead of DVD Video.

You can use Nero to create a "Data disk" and then once you've burned the DVD, it'll be like using the DVD as an extra hard-drive, which I believe is your goal.

Typically, DVDs hold 4.7GB of data.

Yes, you can. Just burn a standard data CD using a DVD instead of a CD. You can always pull the files later. This is much like lending a burned divx movie on a CD to a friend so s/he can pull it off the CD onto the computer, for example.

In Nero SmartStart, click the little DVD button on the top-right.

Then click on "Make a data disc."

So you could download about 8 data form divxs movies(average is about 700mb each) onto one blank dvd?

About 8 data divxs (around 700) megs each would be about 5.6GB.

You might be able to sqeeze 6 on there (~ 4.2G).

Just burning the divx to the DVD medium as data, yes that would theoretically work.

Single-Layer DVD±R are expensive.

It only takes 8 minutes to burn a full DVD at 8x.

More like a zip/jazz drive or a CDRW...CD...DVD...DVDR...well ya'll get my point. lol

Just use Nero to burn a "DVD" (Select it from the upper left corner or the new ISO compilation window...) then select DVD ISO or DVD UDF or DVD ISO/UDF...

In basic terms.. DVD ISO - Burn ...thats it..
DVD UDF - write or write/rewrite discs formatted sorta like a HD..you can drag files to the drive and it'll burn the files, delete the files (provided you have a RW disc).

In any case drag 'n drop DVD or CD writing software is shitty at best so stick to finalized ISO discs.

In answer to your main question..yes you can just select the audio and video stream from the AVI files on the DVD disc. As long as you don't try to save to the disc you'll be fine.

Oh and masturbation kills brain cells....try to cut back..or just go use google for A/V related info cuz asking the same SVC/VCD/DVD shit over and over is getting bloody annoying.. lol

Edit: wanked - Burning a DVD at 8x is damn fast..as I don't have 8x cert media I trick out the burning app...works just fine. Even at 2.4x a full DVD (4.7 gb/4483 megs to be exact) only takes 23 minutes.. Think about that.. Thats like 3 minutes shy of a 4x burn on CDR...compare the volume of data being burned and it's pretty fucking fast.

Stalemate - Yes look for "KiSS" DVD players...forget where they're made, but they are cheap (Apex cheap) and they do play DivX 4.x content off DVDR/RW CDR/RW media. Just burn it at a slow speed as some KiSS/Apex players have a bitch of a time reading discs after a few years worth of heavy use...lol

CompuGeek - Fuck yes man... 49 bucks for a 50 spindle of DVD+R discs and around 22 bucks for a 10 pack of DVD+RW discs (with the good full sized CD cases...)
