    Stupid Q

I know this is a very n00bie-ish question but I was just courious.

Do you need a DVD burner to burn something onto a blank DVD?

Meaning, can I buy a DVD-RW and burn data onto it with just my regular old CD-RW drive and have it work?

Like I said, I'm just curious.

I dont know but im pretty sure you cant. Which Blank Dvd's cost a lot more than a blank CD-r.. It would make much more sense to use a cd-r.

Blank DVD's hold a ton more space than a cd-r though.

Seph has a point too, cd-r's are way cheaper.

If you have a DVD burner you can ue DVD's for regular back ups though right?

Also, would an mp3 CD player be able to read the files on a DVD if you used it to burn only mp3's?

I wouldn't think so, because an MP3 "CD" is not a "DVD" disc.

I would assume it can only read "CDs".

I've never seen one claiming to read dvd's, it's too different. I haven't heard of a Dvd player playing an mp3dvd either, although it would be more likely.

We can probably expect those to come eventually. My dvd player won't read any more than 134 files though, so it'll take hardware advancements.
