Question Can't connect - PLS HELP

I have recently upgraded to Windows XP and now can not connect to WinMX. We downloaded the latest version of WinMX but still can't connect. It just keeps flashing FINDING NETWORK CONNECTION.

Prior to our upgrade connection was never a problem.

I am not a computer guru but we love WinMX and it is very frustrating not being able to connect.

    PLEASE HELP

WinXP? I think the built in firewall that comes with it may be the problem.

You'll have to disable it or poke a hole in it. I couldn't tell you how to configure it, I've got winme, but its a start at least.

    Yes.

If you just installed/upgraded to Windows XP, the built in XP firewall is probably ON.

To shut it down, go to Start->Run-> type "services.msc" without the quotes. Look for the entry that says "Internet Connection Firewall (ICF)/Internet Connection Sharing". Right click on the entry, and select stop first, then do that again, but then select properties. In the following menu, select "disabled" as the "Start Up Type" (it's a pull-down menu).

You'll probably have to restart, for the changes to take effect.

Now, if you have a router, or a separate software firewall, or something, you'll have to configure accordingly. For a router, you'll have to open up (forward) some ports. For a firewall, you'll have to go into that programs settings, and open up the ports needed (WinMX's website, or someone else, will have info on what ports are needed).

just use "manual configuration" option that is offered to you during installation and winmx will automatically configure your xp firewall.
