I just downloaded both the a couple DVD rips, and they play really jerky. The picture looks great, but it just doesn't play smooth like it should. Does anybody know what might cause this? I've never seen this before. They are both .avi files, and I'm using Windows Media Player to play them. Any ideas?

how much video RAM do you have and what's your processor speed?

I'm leaning toward codec problems.
I suggest you grab this and double check what codec you need to play the movie.
If you already have the codec installed, delete it and try re-installing. Krell listed several links to codecs here.
His first link may be too helpful depending on your computing skills. : )
If you can't decide what to install, use both of his last two links.

Well I have run into a lot of jerky videos. Most of the time its been ripped in some odd resolution. The way I have fixed this problem is to re-rip them with Virtua Dub.
method I use
Load video to virtua dub,Go into Video,Compression, select Divx codec, select configure, go into general parameters, click enable resize and enter 400 by 300(Im guessing these are supposed to be full screen). Try ripping a short clip to start. You can cancel the ripping proccess at anytime and take a look at what ever was completed. Let it go for about a minute and then check it out.

I suggest trying this: http://www.3ivx.com. Download the codec from 3ivx and try it. You may not know but do you have any idea what your VIDEO RAM is? is it shared onboard RAM?
If that's the case then it can be fixed easily through BIOS.
I had an issue like this with xvid encoded files. WMP 6.4 would play them but play the really jerky. I played them in wmp9 and they are golden.

I past by thiss also but when I put in Virual Dub it reported that the audio had a VRD part to it. Power DVD and Media Player plays the file choppy but Real Player 8 plays it fine. I doing a convertion of the file and it would be by tomorrow before I know if it works. Oh I only have a 500 Mhz with 384 MB of memory and only past by 2 video like this out of I not quite sure but it must be at less 20 that works without any problem.

I found out that my video ram is not shared onboard ram, its a Leadtek GForce 4 MX440 video card with 64 MB of video ram... or somethin'. Oh, and that link you posted, BearFactory, doesn't work. Did you mean 3ivX.com instead of 3ivX.org?
I found out that the file was made with a XviD codec (which I have), and the resolution is 576/240. So it being a XviD, could I still use Virtual Dub to resize it? And, should I still try downloading Krell's links, or should I try uninstalling the XviD codec and then reinstall it?
After the title of the movies, the rest of the file name is 'XviD.DVDRip-iNCiTE.avi' for one of the movies, and 'DVDrip.XviD-Dice.avi' for the other one. If thats any clue to the problem, I dunno.
I tried playing it with Real Player, but Real Player just chrashes everytime I try it.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling xvid first. Install ffdshow too.
If that doesn't do it, then look for other stuff.
If there is something wrong with your xvid codec, you'll just have this problem again next time.
get a good build of xvid and a new ffdshow from sourceforge...that fixed my problem with a movie about a slashing/dashing ninja-type bride in a yellow track suit.
don't use nimo codec pack's xvid, it causes green screen...yeah...on all builds.
Great news! I reintalled the Xvid (Koepi's), and its workin good for now. THANKS FOR THE ADVICE! Is that ffdshow thingy still something I should get for future problems?
