Well Im a Yoda In some trouble here...
I re fomatted my harddrive last night and got XP back on so everything went well. But now its not going so well I lost alot of things. The computer is telling me that it cannot find some important stuff I need. Here is the stuff it says it cannot find:
Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Scan
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatable)
So far all I can find that Im missing is my sound and I cant connect on my high speed so Im using stupid 56K right now.
Anyone got ideas how to get those back?

get your drivers from your devices cd's and install accordingly

It's best to get the newest versions from the manufacturers' websites. You usually have to click on Support and then click on Download Drivers.
For example, if you had a Netgear FA311 "ethernet controller" you would go to www.netgear.com to get the driver for that model #.

i run nvidia sound and graphic drivers and get the same messages when i format and then reinstall xp or any other os. it`s simply asking you to reinstall those drivers...which can be obtained from website driver support depending on which brand you are using. in my case i go to the nvidia site. you should have a cd that came with your pc with your drivers on it.for instance i have an asus motherboard and my nvidia graphics and audio drivers came with it on a cd. no ethernet controller installed will be what`s stuffing your highspeed connection.
Well, admittedly I've gotten pretty lazy when it comes to offering tech help. The field is pretty thick here, and most questions have 6 replies by the time I get to them.
Although this question is the same in that regard, I think everyone has overlooked the most obvious fix. And since this is for Yoda, I thought I had better kick in.

Most times when you format your drive, the info isn't really gone. As you know from all of the apps out there that can be used to 'clean' a hard-drive, formatting doesn't guarantee a full erase.
In your case, where you just need to find the drivers to things you already had installed, you can use this to your advantage.

To understand how this works, you have to understand how hard drives can be imprinted with info. Contrary to most people's beliefs, namely, that a hard drive is formatted by rearranging all of the values to 1 or 0, the truth is that the info is just rearranged to non-conforming patterns.
eg Original pattern 11010011
Formatted Pattern 01011110
So without changing any of the info, formatting the drive makes it appear 'empty' by converting all variables to an unrecognized pattern. Since your computer no longer recognizes this info, it considers the info gone.
So all you have to do to get your drivers back is rearrange the info in concise, recognizable patterns. There are two ways to do this and I'll actually discuss both.

1) The Electro-Magnet Method
The lesser of the two methods, the Electro-Magnet method requires you to remove the hard drive from your computer, construct an electro-magnet, (link to help with that) and then repeatedly stroke the electro-magnet in 1 direction across the hard drive.
The downside of this method is that you must stroke the magnet across the hard drive correctly. If, after 5 minutes or so, of stroking the hard drive (1 direction remember, you have to rearrange concisely) there seems to be no effect, you have to start over. Likewise, if there seems to be negative effects, you must have accidentally stroked in more than 1 direction and again you must start over. If you have either problem, stroke the magnet along the hard drive twice as long the next time.
2) The Static Shock Method
This, the better of the two methods, is accomplished by simply booting your case with the power running, and then rearranging the info. The easiest method, of course, is to drag socked feet along a carpet until you build up a sizable charge, then touch the various capacitors and resistors connected to the hardware for which you want the info back.
Definitely the easier method, the Static Shock method also has the added ease of only rearranging one pattern at a time. With the electro-magnet method, you had to rearrange that lost info all at once. Doing it one at a time can really help when you are trouble shooting.
