Error !! Your 4662 port is not reachable.

    Hi,
I have just managed to install mldonkey v2.4.5.0 and I am running it with g2gui . Now when I search for files on edonkey - I get results all right, but when I try to download files I get this error message:

WARNING : Your 4662 port is not reachable. Please review your network config.

All my settings for the edonkey network are set to default. Also I had managed to download about 50% of a file from the edonkey network previously, but now even this seems to have stopped and shows the same error.

Being a novice, I am baffeled and dont know what to do. Please help !!

Are you connected through a router? Are you using a firewall.. either windows xp firewall, or a stand alone? A bit more info, dude.

I have ZoneAlarm Pro 4.5 but when I received that error, I just exit the program and start it again within 5 secs then everything is back to normal.

if the other reccomendations do not work just try using a different port setting rather than 4662. it's funny some ed2k servers work right way when connecting others take there sweet time.

Try forwarding the ports if your behind a router and configure your firewall if you have one, or try changing ports

Sorry for the delay, folks. More info as requested......

    Hi,
Firstly I am really sorry for the delay, folks. I took a break and went for a four day hiking trip.Coming back to the point, I am not behind a firewall and I dont think that I am behind a router. I use a fixed cable connection.Does that make any difference in regard to the router?

Secondly as I have said - I had managed to download a file from the donkey network partially. And thats what is confusing me even more 'cause if I was behind a router how did I manage to download the file in the first place ? If I should use a different port - which one should I be using?(Sorry for sounding so incompetent but I am a novice !)

Run ip config in a cmd.exe "dos box"
IF your ip address is 192.168.x.x 10.x.x.x or 172.16-32.x.x then your computer is behind a NAT router or other connection sharing system. You need to find the NAT machine and configure port forwarding on it.

You cannot download from other lowid users. You can only download from people who have their client port open for incoming connections.

    >I was behind a router how did I manage to download the file in the first place ?
Either your network configuration changed after you got part of the file or there are currently no high-id users sharing that file.

Have you got a firewall like.. Norton or something, and have u allowed access to port 4662, also is that the latest version of MLdonkey... im sure its .4 and not .0

Or if you have ZoneAlarm pro or something, exit it, then load MLdonkey and see what happens

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

Thanks for your help zaphodiv. You were right - my IP address is 172.16.x.x and I guess that means I am behind a NAT router or some other kind of connection sharing system. I will get in touch with my service provider and configure port forwarding on it.

Also your explaination of why I managed an incomplete download seems to fit in correct. There is no no high-id users sharing that file right now (Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it.)

So I guess this post should be considered closed.

google port forwarding. heres a tip tho find your lan ip, type it into your web browser, login, select virtual machine nat settings port forwading something of this nature and forward the ports necessary to your local ip
It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
