I've tried all the sites and search and for some reason I can find maybe one episode of a given show, and no others. Is this just a quirk or am I missing a comprehensive search option?

This may sound "fan-boyish" but ed2k isnt very well known for TV episodes, you may try BitTorrent and then searching (novaseach.net) or just getting a list of the tv episodes they have (suprnova.org > TV Shows)
I am in no way influencing your decision on searching, CPU knows his stuff, and from personal experience jigle and sharereactor are excellent, some of the most elderly of the file-sharing link sites.
