End result. IP Address story!
I suppose some will consider this double posting but my intention is just to thank Omyn. Thewhitrbbit. Crackerjacker. Scyth77521.
Dark Messenger. Nasrules. Mrdingaling. Collideous. Shawners. phalkon30. Killawat. Azathoth. And last but not least RACKnRAIL. For their time and help with my Problem!
I am not saying I tried everything they suggested but I did go to Shaw again. They refused to change my IP but said I could either buy a ROUTER or leave the computer off line for a few days, I asked them how long, they said it varies on how long it takes another client to take my IP while I am off the air. (One day or a week.) Don’t see why I should have to buy a ROUTER.
I did a complete format using “DriveScubber” on my whole hard drive (It is fantastic) Installed Windows XP Prof and a few programs.
I used this like one of you suggested www.pcflank.com.
Then I Installed Norton Antivirus 2004 Prof.
Went for coffee where the group used to meet, told them that
Shaw would now help me trace anyone who mucked about with my computer. Came home and found Red and Blue window in centre of screen “W32.hllwGaobotgen” virus Norton could not delete it but quarantined it.
Now I have enabled Win Firewall.
Cheerio and thanks again.

I have no idea why they suggested you buy a router. Well, no real reason anyway. You formatted though, that'll make sure it's not your 'puter that's a problem I guess.
It seems weird that they refused outright to change your IP. It's not as if it's hard or anything.
shaw refused to change my ip too, about a year back. its a company policy of some sort (or, at least, it is in victoria). that was only one of many problems i had with them, and i eventually ended up switching to telus. if i was you, i would consider doing the same.

They may have suggested it for the hardware firewall (just my guess). But you can change your IP with some of them and that may also be why. I'm gald things (sorta :bling ) worked out for you gotcha3.
edit- you should also be able to delete the infected file now that it's quarentined.

this is just my expericnce with the subject:
after reading your post, i figured, eh, i should beable to change my ip.
i knew if i left it off for a while it would change, cause it always does over vacations. so one night, i got banned from a h/l server for killing the admin by"spaming the spawn" i had no idea what that meant at the time, cause i had never played h\l before. for those who still don't know, it is sitting infornt of where they come out if they die, and shooting them. i thought i was being pretty clever at the time. i don't do that anymore.
so anyways. i wanted to change my ip. i umplugged the modem for the night. (could only do it overnight cause more then me use the connection)
it didn't change.
then i saw your post. someone mentioned about changing the mac addres..
i went into my router, and changed the last to digedts to 9c from 9d and badabing, badaboom new ip.
btw, i have roadrunner, and a linksys router/

Quarentined means that the anti-virus is constantly denying access to and from the file. It may not mean that you can immediatly delete the file. Restarting should correct this. But, yes, everyone needs a firewall. That is one way to get a virus, is when an attack computer scans ports, sends you the file on an open port, and your infected. Or, considering this is a file-sharing portal, make sure its not something youve downloaded.

No problem, thats what this community is for.
Oh and talking hand, there are 2 primary rules for playing half life death match...1)Dont kill people while they just spawn 2) dont kill people who are facing the walls to type something, or may just be afk.
Other mods for HL no one really cares except just obey rule one in any other mod and you should have no problems, as for rule two any other modifications for halflife pretty much anything goes...
Happy fragging :]
Surely if you "kill the spawn" then people would know where to find you. That is a bug in the game that needs to be fixed that people can spawn were you can see them. As for getting shot whilst typing a message - can you imagine that in real life? "er, excuse Mr Taliban man, but can you please wait until I have finished on the radio until we fight? Thanks."
I'm not really malicious. I'm a nice guy.

If you installed Win XP Pro from your installation CD you might be missing some very important security updates. Did you apply those? I bet that worm came through a vulnerability in the RPC interface, which you probably didn't patch. The group you accuse quite likely is innocent.
Yes I did install Windows from the original CD (Legal!) and now I realise that as it is 10 months old there must be lots of updatse. Thanks for mentioning it!
