    Bit Torrent Upgrade Scam

Just wanted to spread the word and at the same time hopefully find out more information on this. I explain what happened to me.

I was doing a search on www.suprnova.org when I got a pop up box saying that I should upgrade to the newest bittorrent version 3.3. (i know...I'm such a dumbass for falling for it!). It looked exactly like the website for bittorrent client and I did have version 3.1 so I decided to upgrade. Bad idea. Very bad idea. This thing loaded so much spyware on to my pc. I can't get rid of it all. It includes this damn search bar that pops up on my desktop as soon as I turn my computer on, and I can't find a way to uninstall it. Beware of this. Do not upgrade you Bit Torrent client from suprnova. It may not even have been the site's fault. I think it may something to do with Cydoor, which I think I got from iMesh-lite.

If anyone has further information on this that can help me get rid of it, can you please let me know. I need help!!!!!

Spybot Search & Destroy and Lavasoft Adaware may help to remove some of the problems. There are tools available for specific hijackers, if you look.

thanks for the advice. I have actually tried both SpyBot and Adaware 6.0, they both have removed quite a bit. The only thing I can't get rid of is this damn Search Bar. I chose not to include it in the upgrade but installed itself anyway. From what I found it seems that Pest Patrol can get rid of it all.....but sadly, they don't have a free version that will delete the problem. The free version only finds the problem.

I'll keep working on it. thanks again!

Upgrading to version 3.3 is a good idea - but do it from the proper site!
    http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html
You may want to try some more advance clients, which are listed here:
    http://www.zeropaid.com/torrent/
or ABC is a good client:
    http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/
It is simple to use with nearly all the useful advance features. The most likely reason to change client is to keep all torrents in one window and to minimise to the system tray.
I'm not really malicious. I'm a nice guy.

Yeah it is a popup ad from Suprnova. You might try googling the name of the search bar and see if you can find an uninstaller. Good luck.

Trust me, you're not missing out. And Spybot + adaware should remove the bar. Did you update the definitions?

IMO anything that shows up in a pop-up should be generally considered suspect.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

this thing wil get rid of all that crap and not only that but this give you much control over your pc - just open up the advance tab after installing it - run the updtes then do a search - reboot (may need it to scan durring start up ) to remove everything - and then go under the tools bar - this gives you a list of all things that start up when you bootup your computer - and delete what should not be thier - this little program is the shitz...

u should be able to go to the add + remove panel to get rid of it, it will have a different icon next to it to try and confuse you but it is there....

well it depends on how you did the upgrade. Was it from a popup or a link you saw on their site? Once I installed the upgrade not only was their a weird toolbar (that I had deselected so it wouldn't be installed) there were a bunch of icons on my desktop, for casino games and other crap. Once I did my scan with Adaware it showed some of the installed components to be "Possible Browser Hijack attempts".

Just to let everyone know, it looks as though, after doing about ten different scans with Spybot (and not fully understanding all of the different settings hehe) I have gotten rid of the search bar. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions!
