As any ex-eDonkey user will tell you, OverNet is clearly ready for prime time, with performance exceeding that of most opther P2P networks when it comes to top-quality films and software.
Isn't it time this awesome app got a bit more coverage on ZP? How about starting a dedicated forum?
Yep I would like that :D

I dont think it would be good for the site to jump on board every bandwagon that strolls through town.. No offense but i dont want to see anymore things like with xolox happen... If programs want dedicated promotion then they can buy ad space. Otherwise this site should remain neutral and shouldnt favor or appear to be favoring one program over the other, it will kill this site's rep.. This is a portal site not a program site.
Overnet like i said in a thread before is the next verison of e-donkey since i doubt that the old e-donkey would be actively developed overnet would just take over the e-donkey forum.. So i dont think it requires its own forum maybe modify the name of the e-donkey forum..
yeah, sure that'd be cool. I like Blubster.. lol
DON'T DO THAT!

yeah, its a tad bit large and its a large file that takes too long to load. just check to see if img code is on so you can resize the image or put a link to it.
P2PForums.com - P2P News and Community :)
I scaled it down.. Please post links for the larger pictures instead of just attaching them because it makes the thread much longer to load especially if you have dial up..
Overnet? hmph!
I install it, I set up my shared folder, I even give it my unfinished Edonkey D/Ls... It sits there and does NOTHING!!. I get the odd burst of a few Kbps, but apart from that, ZIP!!
Overnet isn't finished, it has only just gone into beta, so don't all jump on the bandwagon yet....

Just because it doesnt work for you it doesn't mean "it's not ready yet." It's got me GIGS of stuff 24/7, so much so that I can't burn CDs fast enough. Gnucleus is always jumping from one beta tto the next (or was, it's gone to sleep lately) and it still has its own forum, so that argument is a touch weak.
"Final" is a sketchy definition in the P2P world.
Yes it does.. Just because it works for you doesnt mean it does for everyone else.Originally posted by Roamerick

Anyways like ive said now for the third time it does not need a new forum because its just the new verison of edonkey.. I doubt that edonkey will be actively developed so why have two forums for the same program? This overnet will eventually replace edonkey so it should also just replace that forum here so having two forums would be unnecessary..
Final is not a sketchy defination.. Most programs always call their programs beta al a napster because they thought it would have some legal insurance which is does not..
Which completely proves my point for all practical purposes, thank you. And as far as ON being a successor to eDonkey, you're wrong for, amongst others, two reasons:Originally posted by Sephiroth

1) The developer would disagree (see www.edonkey2000.com)
2) The community is split, and the two resulting usergroups have therefore developed different support needs.
On your "bandwagon" issue, all I can say is "pffftt." ZP is missing out on the only P2P bandwagon worth being on. After hopping on so many before, it's certainly found a funny time to stop.
If you dont like OverNet just say soand don't make excuses, allright?
overnet shares donkeys hang ups but donkey is way better.
both work best when nothing is being uploaded. that means heavy uploads stop downloads. also, sharing of downloads starts as soon as little as 9 mebabytes of a file are received. so you click on "mafia" and get "sacrifice" instead. then a lot of others uploading from you get the wrong file also. there is no way to first get the file, check it, then let it upload.
both stop working and need a restart to get going again. that means your pc has to rehash all the downloading files and reset its shares.
but overnet needs the dot-net software (22 megabytes). this does nothing for smooth running. overnet stalls and crashes like other p2p apps. but overnet is nothing more than a reskinned, unstable donkey.
i dont recommend it.
I tried Overnet. It connected. It DIDN'T give estimates on total users and all that at the bottom(just had question marks(?)). I searched for many common things(to test search feature). I got no search results for anything I searched for. Am I doing something wrong?
You can't triple stamp a double stamp.
on your overnet be sure to have service pack 2 for that 22 megabyte mess (dot-net). it is a copy of the java "layer" on top of which the app does its job. this one is buggy so another service pack came out to fix it.
also we dont know what OS you have and what net connection you have. your ports have to be open correctly (firewall) and other things have to be online for overnet to work.
the users and files numbers will always be estimates because overnet is a node-like app. that means you see only a small web of computers around you. so those numbers will never be right.
all this tech talk for an app that really does not work very well!? chat doesnt upload with the enter button, searches have to be retyped each time, waiting for files takes forever, and so on.
I'll have to agree with blady. Overnet needs a lot of work yet. It does run, but uses a lot more resources than edonkey.
Edonkey has issues. Overnet has edonkey's issues---and more of its own. Once the bugs are worked out, I think it might be better than edonkey.
Keep pluggin at it!
