Okie i was stupid and i put my room heater in the UPS
kaboom ups blew its ic...
the system it crashed as well - xp progress bar appeared and nuthing after that, complete blackout and no welcome screen.
i formatted and now running xp pro but strange thing has happened... sometimes the screen blacks out for like half a second and comes back alive, this happens on irregular intevarls...
i have intel 845motherboard with integrated audio and video, i have absolutely no other software installed apart from the driver cd provided by motherboard...
i thought its sofwtare problem so i checked direct draw and other 3d tests from 'dxdiag' on directx 8.1 - all tests were successful
so then i upgraded all drivers from intel and also switched to directx9b - and still all tests were sucessful - but the problem of flicker still remains
i have tried formating 4times and currently i am on latest drivers with no other sofwtare installed
Do you thinks its hardware crash??
if it is what did i blew ?
i have a complete replacement warantee on all my system parts- so i wanna know what should i get replaced?
i cant walk up to the company and say replace my system, so i wanna replace most probable item....
i have asked to relace the motherboard and the guy has agreed and says u will get a new sealed replacement but then what if the ram blew or hard disk blew.....or monitor
kindly suggest what i should get replaced based on the symptoms of screen blackout and the fact i put room heater in the ups
motherboard
ram
hdd
smps
monitor
Please help
well another important info is that
if a song is playing on winamp and the blackout occurs then the song dosent stop playing , there are no interruptions, hope this is helpful
man you got owned
i coulda swore you said sausage...http://home.comcast.net/~eddyisgreat/Sig0183.jpg
yep its a very probable coz if it was anything critical like motherboard or power supply or anything was corrupt the system would reboot or something but it never crashes.Originally Posted by lion7718
also right now i did "Benchmarking" using FreshDiagnose and also Sandra Professional and all results were perfect...
all tests like vga, cache, processor evrything performed as per expectations and well these tests put the maxmimum load on ur comp, and in case of a faulty box the system would more likely crash but mine did not.
it did not blackout once while performing varios benchmarking tests
I saw this once on a friends computer after he did a clean install. I looked thru all the drivers & stuff that came with his system and we found a 3.5' floppy which came with the monitor - he'd never used it cause it was a store brought system.
I chucked the disc in, and installed the driver for his specific model monitor (his was a syncmaster, but I have a Hitachi flat CRT with really low dot pitch - and the generic monitor driver doesn't do it justice, so I always install the monitor driver). It fixed the flickering.
Problem is, Microsoft think they can write drivers for everything - have you ever seen a Microsoft monitor?? no, so why use a microsoft monitor driver??
yea, unfortunately, too many people rely on microsoft drivers and then when they don't understand why some inane feature doesn't work, it doesn't make sense to them that they need to install the proper drivers, not just trust what the add new hardware screen tells you.Originally Posted by Black Beard

I have this problem sometimes, it doesn't really bother me as it only happens once.
updated the monitor drivers
still flickers
the problem could not be some driver conflict as it wasnt present before the crash
its not the monitor coz when the system blinks the monitor power dosent go off.... the light remains green....it would go red if the power is turned off
when the power is turned off then the light would go OFF also. Does it make sounds like *tsik tsik*? This is most likely not a software problem but a hardware problem. Not much we can do.Originally Posted by ferrarimodena360
go to the store and replace the parts and don't mention the heater incident.
