I recently and against my better judgment viewed my new welcome cd from verizon only to have it install a tracking program on my computer (Noptify.Exe) by James Tower Co. It seems to be trying to phone home, zgate.com but ZoneAlarm blocked its exit.
The ad ware is installed without the user’s knowledge or consent then hides once installed. The EXE resides as a hidden file in C/windows/docsandsettings/local/temp and 1 in prefetch. It can be deleted after killing the running process. This little monster isn't seen by Spybot or Ad aware and McAfee VS did nothing.
Thought you all should know, If you get Verizon Wireless skip the CD and opt for the online manuals. Cheers!

From the info i have found about it on security sites only tracks useage of the welcome cd and nothing else. So there is really nothing to worry about.
You must be using an old cd too since they have stopped using it.
Have you been living under a rock? Type "verizon" into the news search.but i dunno who verizon is
I'm not really malicious. I'm a nice guy.

verison is the new name of bell atlantic telephone.Originally Posted by rctempire

Found this on the net. It's Not Melissa but I don't want anything on my computer that tracks browser activity. and as far as being an old disc, my service started the 5th o Jan. 04'. Must still be going through the old stock, Yeah Right!

No it was called AT&T and was split up into the "Baby Bells" Which is where they all came from.Originally Posted by blady
The name verizon came after a merger between GTE and some other company i forget.
Well that site is wrong because it only tracks whats on the CD and NOT browser activity. Thats coming from that program's site. And also explains why none of the spyware removal tools detect it.Originally Posted by nyvocals

sorry, there's nothing else to say here.

They are better than the Cable ISPs, which have bandwidth limits, newsgroups limits, and around here at least the speed isnt as consistent as dsl.Originally Posted by isus

I tend to kept my prefetch cleaned out anyways, saves a liitle time if you don't use certain programs, for a while.Originally Posted by nyvocals

which is better .. T or Verizon?
You've probably heard of Verizon through their loss of a court case against the RIAA forcing them to release the names of a number of subscribers.Originally Posted by rctempire
Personally, I think NTL are pretty good - it seems a bit hit-and-mis. I get good speeds for a good price with a good phone and TV package. The only thing that sucks about NTL is the Interactive services on digital TV. Having said that, services provided by broadcasters (eg. BBCi) seem pretty good.
