Time for the industry to stop milking "pap" artists

Its time for the RIAA to realize that the majority of people hate the recycled music! check this out

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Limp Bizkit, which suffered slow sales of its long-awaited new album, has been named worst band of the year by readers of Guitar World magazine.

Creed, another act that draws sharp reactions, came in at No. 2 even though the Christian combo took the year off. New York rockers the Strokes were No. 3, followed by "all pop-punk bands" at No. 4 and pop-punk band Good Charlotte at No. 5.

Limp Bizkit's "Results May Vary" has sold one million copies after 13 weeks, and ranks No. 64 on the U.S. pop charts. Its previous release, 2000's Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water," ranked No. 5 after 13 weeks with sales of four million copies.

Metallica's poor-selling new album, "St. Anger," was named biggest disappointment, but it also came in at No. 2 as the best metal album, ranking behind Black Label Society's "The Blessed Hellride."

Metallica's Kirk Hammett was named best metal guitarist, a possible consolation prize for having all his solos cut from "St. Anger," and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was named best rock guitarist, notwithstanding his initial claim to fame as the drummer with defunct rock band Nirvana.

Another long-gone band, Led Zeppelin, released the best rock album of 2003, the 3-CD live package "How the West Was Won," according to Guitar World readers. That category was rounded out by Audioslave's self-titled debut, the White Stripes' "Elephant," Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Vicious Cycle" and Rush's "Rock in Rio."

The other big disappointments of the year were listed as "all new music," the break-up of Texas metal veterans Pantera, the continued absence of a new Guns 'N Roses album, and Marcos Curiel's departure from Christian rock band P.O.D.

It doens't matter much, RIAA doesn't make music but money, and the best way to make money is to use sure money making formula for music, as majority of people listen what is being advertised as "the" album to listen to. Personally I've started listening mostly Scandinavian gothic/technical metal bands, that will never be "the" bands to listen to.
Besides, Guitar Mag is just one opinion. St. Anger sucked, Bizkit of course sucked. I cannot take this mag seriously. Kirk Hammet cannot be the best guitarist, because Metallica=Solos, but where are they. Hammet should listen to new Children of Bodom album and should rethink how guitar is played. Pantera broke up, so what. You get to choose between Phil (Superjoint Ritual) and Vinnie&Paul (Damageplan).
P.O.D. is a sellout, boring crap so why should they be mentioned at all.
Seems that this mag is about the American bands. Agreed that many of them are boring, but one shouldn't say that all new music is crap. There are many very excellent European bands, representing any genre you could wish for.
"I have never been comfortable with being labeled. I don't think metal fits us. I don't think nu-metal fits us. I don't think anything fits us. I can't think of one word that would describe our music. That's impossible. Maybe it's because I'm too close to it and it's like my baby. But it would take, like, 10 words for me to give a name for it. I think we're something completely new."

was there any specific reason why Kirk's solos were cut? I don't get it. I thought he just got lazy or something, but then again I didn't pay too much attention to the album, I listened to it once and got rid of it

    mp3=bad

The RIAA: Here, you can have $13 for all the years we ripped you off.

    My response:
"That's ok, keep your $13 and I'll settle my claim via p2p."

Keep an eye on MS and the RIAA: http://slashdot.org

Metal isn't dead. Mainstream metal is. *Thank god* Metallica just needs to learn when to quit... What's worse is the Metallica bitches in my town are claiming St. Anger to be "old-skool" Metallica. Does anyone have a .45?

LOL, that's funny. Metal is far from being dead. I can assure you that there are very many excellent bands out there, but you have to know where to look. Scandinavian countries spring out new bands all the time. Century Media, Nuclear Blast, Spinefarm Records are companies that still release excellent metal bands.
Lacuna Coil - Excellent Italian Gothic metal, way better than Evanescence
Children of Bodom -From Finland, technical death
Mnemic - From Denmark, a mixture of Fear Factory and Meshuggah
Amaran and Arch Enemy - both from Sweden, fronted by females, excellent.

Nu metal is an American invention. (Unfortunately) now that it's becoming boring and repetetive, people are looking good music elsewhere. The bands mentioned in the guitar mag are just the tip of the iceberg. one of the best places to look for news about current metal releases and bands is blabbermouth.net.

Metallica is suppose to be an example of what Metal musicians shouldnt end up being after playing and recording so many songs.. METALLICa is corporate. They cut KIRKS solo for one reason, short songs get played on the radio.. REMEMBER And Justice for all and Master of puppets? Some of those songs stretched over 7:30 minutes easily.. Even up to 10 minutes. FRIENDLY Radio songs is what the people go for to put out there.

I gotta look up more scandinavian artists, btw you forgot Pain (from sweden)
This guy is amazing, he makes all the music himself! (synth, guitar, drums) and then mixes it so seamlessly

If you like scandinavian metal, try some pain (Its hard to find on P2P, try BitTorrent)
