thanks, for the information, i was able to use sound recorder that came with windows *useful for something*. then i used mp3 trim to remove the silence.
i was able to mix the accapella song, with the instrumental song, and now, it sounds pretty kick ass.
rtw*
but the other programs seem good to.
cnet or zdnet and check out a bunch. the demo version of cooledit2000 or the demo of goldwave will help you do this. There are a ton of others that will let you overlay sounds. Warning these have a ton of buttons and functions. If you read the help menue you can get the order. good luck.
streambeam me up scotty
Before I started using Soundforge, I used Goldwave it does a lot for a small program, get the demo and it is very easy to upgrade to full version ; -) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I still have it installed and use it for smaller projects

can you upload your mix to a webiste, so we can hear it?
some freeware websites allow it as long as you made it.
