This is how I would do it.

I use to copy rent VHS's, and make a copy on a nother CHS tape. but now I have a dvd player. so do DVD to VHS is to hook up your dvd player and vhs player on the same tv, and put a blank vhs tape in the vhs player and then play the dvd, and as the dvd is playing hit the record button on the vhs, and it records the movie. and u can hook up a vhs and dvd player on the same tv if you havet the right wires and right hook ups in the back of your tv.

Unfortunately most DVDs use macrovision copy protection. To get a good copy onto VHS you need to purchase a "Macrovision Buster" or similar product to hook between your DVD player and your VCR. Some DVD players have methods for disabling the macrovision...like some Apex models.

where can I buy a 'macro buster' or a 'D/A'.
I know it sounds stupid but do you think I would be able to build one myself. And is the macrovision on the DVD itself or is it on the DVD player?

oh yeah, thanks for your replies everyone!

    Ok, thanks for the info.
One thing though, If I had a VCD & I wanted to put it onto a VHS tape using my DVD player and VHS recorder, would I have to bother with macrovision because I've got the idea that it's the actual DVD/VCD movie that has the macrovision protection, not the DVD player. Is this true?

    I'm not sure..

Not sure, but if you have a VCD and want to put the VCD on the VHS it could work, but not u got me thinking.. humm.. I think the dvd player has the thing in it.. not the movie.. but hey it's worth a shot experiment!

I got my D/A converter at Radio Shack, don't know if they have store locations on your side of the pond or not. You should be able to pick one up at any electronic supply store, I imagine.
    best of luck

I believe that the macrovision unit is built in to the DVD player, at least the newer ones, the old players may not have that device.

Has anyone actually sat down & tried to see wether the macrovision is on the DVD movie or on the DVD player. If not - let's try it, dosen't sound like too hard a project to try!
My VCR is busted at the moment but once I get it back i'll try copying different types of DVD onto VCR.
