    Downloading file problem

I hope somebody can help me with this.

I start to download a file for eg: an MP3 of size 32,123,890, the download stops at 123,000 but then when it resumes downloading it only goes to 123,000 and then says its complete. The file fails to download fully.
Anybody know why or how to fix it? Many thanks in advance.:bk

Sorry, I'm using Winmx 3.22. The mp3 file was only about 12,000,000 and it has also happened with some mpg files that I was trying to download. Mainly with the mpg files.:bk

Have you tried finding different download sources for those files?

    Thumbs down

It should work if you have more than one source. As far as I know, WinMX doesn't support file hashing. If it did, then that would be the problem: the user you are downloading from doesn't have the whole file. However, since WinMX doesn't work that way, that ISN'T the problem. I think. Do you have more than one source for the file?

    try playing the file

I re-read your post, sorry I did not notice the huge size differance you mentioned, but the complete file is perhaps no longer available.

sounds like the original file was at one time bigger, then more than likely it was cropped (someone cut off a few frames) the remaining frames that were cut off are negligable.
If it is mp3 file it should play.
try playing it and let us know how it turned out.

In reply to all your suggestions:-
The mpg files that still remain labelled as incompletes do play the full vid, why it says its incomplete I don't know. The same applies to a couple of mp3s. Maybe it has something to do with my computer or perhaps the brain dead operator.

For a laugh at my expense I could not understand why I was continuing to download only part of a much larger mpg. The downloading was taking place on the bottom half of the transfer screen. I realised today that this is where people were downloading files from me. I then checked and found that the `download dir' was included in the share folder section. This has now been removed. But I don't understand why they were able to download an incomplete file.

Go on have a laugh, I almost put my head through the monitor and further flattened my already misshapened forehead when I realised my mistake.

Haha! :-) I've got a pretty malleable head myself from frequent screen-bashings.
A user can utilize both incomplete and complete files as download sources and, when the incomplete file is finished, will continue downloading the rest of it from other users who have the entire version of that file. It just speeds things up a little bit.

Huize, you have misinterpreted my comment re 'brain dead operator' I was referring to myself not somebody connected with the operations associated with file transfer. This comment was never intended as abusive to anybody else other than a light hearted dig at my own lack of computer experience.
