    News

Is it possible for news comments on main page to be linked for a forum thread.

Because from what i know from message board you cannot read the main page news comments

    Just a suggestion

Uh? Are you trying to suggest that the news comments should be like a forum thread?

That can be done with a bit of scripting, yeah.

I'm not sure if I'd like that...right now its easy to just post a bunch of comments, make them small, and not worry so much about them. In the forums you have 30 seconds inbetween each, usually have to be longer posts, and they count toward post count.

Honestly, with the amount of news posts we have....I don't think the forums are very fit for news comments.

On the other hand, it would be much more secure and easier to moderate.

if i'm not mistaken, i saw the possibility of not counting posts in the lounge toward post counts...that could be done in a forum for news comments.

the limit for posts in the forum is 10 characters...news posts: 30.

as for the 30 second rule? i doubt it would be much of an issue.

Yeah, they could be excluded, I had forgotten about that.

I don't know, it just seems almost like a waste of bandwidth, I kinda like how anchient the news comments feel. They're fast to read, all in one page in the same post as the news story....I'd rather not have to click a link to see comments for the story.

I guess I could go either way.

How about this, we have news storys posted as forum posts (like UTC), and have some specific posting things turned on. Allow HTML, allow IMG tags, vB, and Smilies, and then don't count posts for post count (maybe).

This would allow news stories to be highly formatable, yet lighten the load on the news mods and get news out faster.

The news comments attract a lot of rhetoric, misunderstandings, obvious generalitys and uninteresting one liners. I'd rarther that sort of stuff stayed in the news sections where it soon drops out of sight and out of mind.
If news can be linked to the forum in some way that dosn't result in the forums being filled with jibberjabber then it is ok with me.

Oh and a preview button on the news section would be good.
