P2P Network For Full Album, High Quality MP3s Only

Greetings all,

I run a website dedicated to teaching people how to create the highest quality MP3s possible, using the best ripper (EAC) and the best MP3 encoder (LAME).

Over time the site has turned into a community, full of people who enjoy high quality MP3s and maintain quite large, well organized collections.

Recently we decided we needed a way to share & search among ourselves, so after a bit of research we decided on the 'Direct Connect' P2P technology which allows us to moderate who uses the network.

In an effort to maintain quality, there are a few guidelines.

We ONLY share:

- Personal rips, which were created using the EAC ripper (secure mode), along with the LAME MP3 encoder (alt preset standard)

- Complete albums

So to anyone out there who would like to join in on our high quality MP3 sharing network, give us a shout.

IRC is decent, it's usually the first place albums are released (often before they hit store shelves).

I too wrote a tutorial teaching people how to download MP3s using mIRC.

However, getting full albums can sometimes be a pain, and having to constantly re-enter queues if you get disconnected can be annoying.

Now that I'm using a P2P client like Direct Connect it's tough to go back to using IRC. There are some good channels though that serve full albums, most of them are ripped at 192kb/s CBR, which is ok, but Alt Preset Standard is much better.

kevo i dont have mirc will it work w/ irc on trillian?

nope It seems to only work with mirc. But I don't like it. It's just browsing users files then downloading what you want so I would recomend just using dc

Chris, looks interesting. Im putting together a back to school piece in the next couple of days and I would like to hear your thoughts on writing a short "How to rip properly" guide.

You and your fans have the right idea on ripping and sharing quality MP3s.

Well I can tell you there aren't many people more qualified to tell you how to rip properly ;)

For 4 years my website has been dedicated to teaching people how to use the best software available for extraction, and how to use it properly.

What sort of article are you looking for? A technical article on how to rip properly, or just general thoughts and procedures?

By 'ripping', do you mean encoding as well?

We've taken it one step further on our network by defining a standard convention for filenames, and requiring people to create .MD5 checksums, which verifies that you have the complete tracks from the album after downloading.

Just lemme know what you're looking for and I'll do my best to help.
