    more hard drive problems

my problem is as follows, 2 pc's one new one whit xp pro and one old whit win 98, now som yers ago i got a new 40 gb hd to the old computer to ad to it's curent 7 gb whitch was partitiond into c: 3.5 gb and d: 3.5 gb. When i added the 40 gb, the curent d: partition was cahnged into e: (god knows why) and the 40 gb got the d: definition. Later on att some point i formated c: but when i was to reinstal win 98 it wold not, due to some problem whit the "clusters" so i put win on the e: partition instead wich is the other part of the 7 gb drive. now however i intended to put the 40 gb drive in the new pc, but this returns the e: back to d: and then windows cannot find win.com and varius other .sys files on e: which then is a dvd drive, it consuqently can not boot.

so question is how can i take out the 40 gb hd whitout having to reinstall windows?

    (god knows why)
    I do.

Its basic, a physical drive will always get the next drive letter assignment before a partition will.

Stop belly aching, get your 40 Gb drive out, and format your old drive, in fact I would repartition it back to one drive partition. Also, I would do a low level format on it, from the manufacturers utilities, go to the drive web site to find out how. If the drive so so F'd up that you cant recertify it with the manufactures disk, then throw it in then garbage.

Any point in that post besides making you feel "superior" by demeaning someone else?

I can't attribute much to someone that attacks anothers spelling or grammer with grammatical mistakes.

In fact, I can't attribute much to ANYONE that's small enough to attack someone elses literacy, period. (ok, well except for zero pain, he's still open season)

Finally, if his request is worth MY TIME . . then it's damned well good enough for anyone elses.

i'm just pointing out that if that person is trying to communicate, he should at least put in some effort to make it understandable. If he's dyslexic, I'll take it back. But i really hate it when someone deliberately write like that.
