Is there a way to turn your home computer into a webpage server and have it compatible with mysql,pearl, apache, ftp and all that great stuff....if so do ya know where a tutorial on where I could read about it is?
Yes, apache is available for windows and linux. There are plenty of ftp server programs for windows.
Setting up apache on windows requires a little more effort than just running an installer. You have to read the documentation and configure a few things.
You can use apache just from the computer it is running on as a test server or if you have an allways on internet connection you can usually run a server that is accessable from the internet.
Start at google or the apache home page.
it's easy to run the server but the problem is do you have a good enough upload b/w to support thr site comfortably. above 5 mbit connection.

Both are (free) windoze installers for a full suite of web server daemons including Apache, php, mysql, and Perl. Both are ready to run right out of the box with little or no configuration.
As for ftp, you have to to that seperately. Filezilla server is one free ftp server that should work well for you. It's similar to a lite version of bpftp server (my favorite - have been using this for a few years. Used to be known as G6 and is not free).
Also another free ftp server is: Guild FTP
As Origin pointed out, if you plan on running it on cable, don't expect it to handle that much traffic. But it's good for running small personal Forums

You could also run (but please dont) Microsoft IIS. Just remeber that even Microsoft uses Apache to run Microsoft.com.

no, they're a big server group in japan i think that alias a company's website.
for example, when you go to apple.com, if the servers aren't too loaded up or if the bandwidth isn't all used up, you use apple's onsite servers. if they are too busy, then you get forwarded to ____ and they are basically a mirror.
only difference is, you cannot tell that they use ____. the source appears the same to a browser.

well I thank you all very much for your help. Yet, I'm a moron when it comes to stuff like this but am slowly figuring it out. When I used FoxServ it was really easy but yet outdated, something I did like is that while using phpmyadmin when I would click something it would ask me for a username and pass...though with the AppServ with phpmyadmin I'm not sure how to configure this user name and pass to come up b/c I don't believe it is set to do so by default. I thought maybe if I just add a pass it would ask me...but yea this just locked me out of my own page. Do ya know the answer to this or do you need to know more information?
