If you use an eMule flavour (if you know what I mean) that supports IP filtering, then it does make it a lot more difficult for dodgy organisations to monitor your eMule client - especially when compounded by NOT showing people your shared files.

I wouldn't underestimate how much work goes into compiling the filter lists, they are quite substantial and well researched. They may limit your file sources, but that's a small price to pay for filtering out the odd dodgy geezer or two.

eMulePlus v1h which I use, also watches peoples behaviour towards your client and anything suspicious is nipped in the bud, resulting in the user being banned for 24hrs. So any underhanded attempts to scan files etc is very difficult.

    So for eMulePlus v1h visit . .

For a well researched IP filter visit . .

BUT - in saying all this, yep . . any organisation can in theory, very easily track you down. Your IP is seen by the world and his wife but is only seen once someone makes a legitimate effort to search for and then actually begin downloading, while manually checking the sources.

Methinks most organisations are too lazy for that to be a feasible way of nobbling people, that and safety in numbers of course.
