    sharing within college network

Alright...I have had enough of getting screwed by my college and not being able to share/download at any kind of speed. I research some earlier posts and sharing within the college network was suggested. I ran a google search and the only things I found were Flatlan, and Phynd both of which don't really exist as far as I can tell. Does anyone know of any widely used program that lets you share within a school network??

A few people i know setup FTP's on they're computers with the locked out 192.168.0.X ip's and used that for a while, i forgot how they did it though, but college staff didn't mind.

It's a lot more complicated than that. Depends on how they are blocking p2p.
Even then I havn't seen anything other than what Killawat suggested - but my novice technical skills don't have a clue about that.
It was found that one system allowed some of the smaller networks like Ares through, but I expect that loophole has been plugged by now.
Dare I say ESV if you are desperate? Might be enough to cover you until you get your own pad.

I think they use packeteer, or some other packet shaping program that is unfortunately quite good. No networks that I have tried have been able to work (just tried Direct Connect today, but alas...blocked). I had read some earlier stuff on how ESV could concievably get through. I seems to remember zp having a faq/tutorial on ESV, but I can't find anything about it on the site anymore. So I might have to give that a try...should I even...gasp...ask for help/direct me to a site that explains how ESV works

I'm sure there is some sort of faq at the ESV site or forums (not recommending it or anything but if that's the only thing the works with your specific situation, guess you gotta dance with the devil, lol). Just don't mention zp over there, they tend to get crabby, lol. ;)

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

They explain all that is needed on their website.

Looking through now I'm not too sure if its the answer. Its a messy program and so you don't want to jump straight in.
Sadly I don't know were you can go for impartial advice. ESV has alienated every member of every forum. Their forums are the other extreme.

That's kinda why I wanted to use ESV as a last resort because ZP is the end all be all for all of my p2p needs...and there seems to be history, so i didn't want to offend. But thanks for the help and the quick reply...pray for my strength as attempt to "dance with the devil".

The school I'm looking at blocks any kind of transfers except email and HTTP (and other basic browsing stuff). They even lock out any internal transfers such as multiplayer games :(

You could allways provide read access and share your drive on the school network. Depending on how its set up, I think you could use the standard File and printer sharing system.

At my school, we all use UWgolan for campus sharing. it's at CNET downloads i think. the only file sharing programs that bypass the campus firewall are ESV and Ares.

    edit:
I can't find UWgolan on the internet anymore, but I wouldn't recommend it anyways, because the university blocked it like after 2 weeks.

University Wisconsin Platteville. I think after a certain time of day they do allow traffic though, multiplayer games are available after ten PM or something. I didn't have a good chance to talk to the students...or any that knew computers past AOL anyway.

UW Platteville doesn't allow anything. The only time multiplayer games work is on weekends or after midnight when everyone is sleepin. The only p2p I found to work is Ares.

What sort of college is that!
Surely it should say "or after 6pm when everyone is too drunk to organise a game!"
