I have been on the computer for days trying to figure out how to use some pc software programs that I downloaded. Does anyone know what I need to do. Do I need to install them now? if so, how do I do that?
Please help......
Thanks
You probably downloaded an installer. Double click on it and it will install.

c7innamon no one can help much unless you give details. Yet the minute you do I expect they will be removed because you downloaded your software. It's sort of a catch-22.
Anyway here's my blind attempt; if what you got is zipped try using winzip to manage the installation.

There could be a way around this and still be within forum rules. Does the file look like this? If it does, then it's zipped. And aglo's advice will work.Originally Posted by aqlo

I hope this is not against the rules for giving this info. I downloaded a pc software that helps build web sites/ pages. It is not "zipped", I ran a virus check on it. I downloaded it in kazaa, and then went to "locate" the file. when I did, the picture next to it is of an open box and when I try opening it, I can't get it extracted. Right now, I am so frustrated with this, has anyone downloaded something like this and been able to use it? If so, what steps did you do?
What is the extention of the file?

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".
If the files extract once you've double-clicked on it, the Setup installer should launch immediately. If it doesn't, you might want to try downloading it again.Originally Posted by c7innamon

If the installer didn't launch automatically, go to where the files were unzipped and double-click the installer. If the files extract once you've double-clicked on it, the Setup installer should launch immediately. If it doesn't, you might want to try downloading it again.

I assume you have a file that you downloaded from a p2p network.
It would help a lot if you could tell us what the extension of the file is (example: MP3, EXE, JPEG, RAR, ISO, etc...).
Not knowing any more details, I'd say it sounds like you got a corrupt file. Try getting a different version of the same proggie. (usually there are several to choose from)

then its either a virus/trojan, and since you ran a virus check on it that is unlikely.
That means the installer is corrupted and it wont work and there is no way to fix it.
And, if what rainbowdemon guessed is true, it was supposed to be a self-extracting archive.
Try redownloading the file from somewhere else. I recommend using
A. A different network (no fasttrack - Kazaa, Grokster, etc.).
B. A verified site, if you can find one that has this software.
