Today I bought an ATI Radeon 9600SE, to replace my old ATI Radeon 7000, in order to play Final Fantasy 11 (irrelevent information I know). For some inexplicable reason, my MONITOR will not switch on when the computer is booting up with the 9600... well no let me rephrase that.
It will boot up ONCE, and then if I restart it, it will not turn on. If I turn it on manually, I get a black screen. I only have one temporary solution for this problem at the moment, and that is to turn my computer on with the 7000 -- let it boot up and then shut it down. After that, I insert the 9600 and turn it back on. Voila! It turns on. Now if I have to reboot... I have to start the whole fucking process over again. I am baffled as to why it does this.
If anyone has *any* information to aid me in my quest to play Final Fantasy and kick alot of Japanese ass (since the game was just released today in America, that is the majority of the gamers on at the moment), it would be GREATLY appreciated. If you want, I will even PayPal you a full dollar (don't spend it all in one place :p).
All kidding aside, any help given will be appreciated. By the way, I am running Win2k and the video card is AGP (duh).

Id say try to look for help on the ATi web page but i know firsthand that there isnt much useful there to fix problems/
Did you install it right? Try install the card, install directx(should have came with the card), and then install the drivers(which came with the card). Then reboot and see if it works.
BTW your going to be kicking alot of Hare ass first heheh..
Is your BIOS up to date? You might need to flash it.
Are your motherboard drivers up to date?
I've had this problem when switching to monitors that couldn't handle my refresh rate or screen res.
Try booting into safe mode, changing the screen res, then booting to windows. If that doesn't work, see if you can borrow a newer monitor from a friend, fire it up, lower the settings, then switch to your monitor.
Refresh rate seems to be the biggest factor, not screen res, although I've had both do it to me.

Its not a monitor or bios problem. If it was then it would have been happening before. So its something with the video card or the drivers.
After you install the new card try going into your system bios and make sure it configured AGP and etc correctly.
If that fails you can either try ATi tech support or searching their site. Or say screw it and take it back and get a different card.
Moony, try uninstalling ATi's 9600 drivers with the 9600 installed. Then reboot and use 'find new hardware'. It should pull the files already installed (as no Windows OS actually removes the drivers...go figure) up and go from there. Try rebooting after it's installed and it should work...
If that dead ends ya try pulling the ATi card and using the onboard or cheap Compaq one the system came with then install your new 9600 software shut down install the new one and fire it up.

Disable your onboard vid card moony it might be conflicting with you new card!!

the on board video card must be disabled before using the newer card..because it will conflict most definitely also it might be that you're bios is not up to date enough for the specified card you are trying to run with you're cpu, also with sound card arises the same problem between on board and other audio cards on board at the same time. One must be diabled first then the next installed in the correct order. Now you know why I love nvidia no problems ;)
