    Ripping VCD

I have recently lost my storage drive and efforts to try to retreive data is not looking good so far. I have most of my share burned as VCD though. Does anyone know if its possible to rip VCDs back to AVI (or even mpeg)? Also does it have to be regular DVD ripping software or different?

sure you can...take the vcd put it in the drive make a cd-image out of it iso bin cue what ever finds you're fancy then use VCDGear tell it where you put the cd image file and then tell it where you want to put the new mpeg file once its done ripping and voila within a few minutes (depending on drive speed, file size) you will have the original mpeg. And to answer the second question you can convert the mpeg back to divx or a compressed avi with the most simple converting tool for divx Dr.Divx takes quite a while to convert but most of the time worth it. Hope this helps you!

I have always used VirtualDub to convert back to avi from disk, but I didn't know there was a way to keep it as an mpeg. Great info!

What's good software to make CD-images off the VCD? I found MagicISO with google and a few others but they are all shareware. Anyone know of any freeware ones and also any suggestions on good one?
