After setting up windows 2000 Pro with SP4 and checking the "hardware section" in the device manager, Windows is telling me that there's a PCI card i do have which hasn't been able to find drivers for !!! (PLZ see screenshot) - I am quite astonished coz i am "QUITE SURE" that i have only 2 PCI cards which are:
1. US Robotics PCI modem
2. Sound Blaster PCI 64
and both have thier drivers installed and working properly so what is that mysterious PCI card ???
P.S. The 3rd last card i have is an AGP grafx card which has nothing 2 do with this issue

Well its something that is plugged into the PCI slot in the back of your PC. So it has to be one of those..
Use the Aida32.exe, and examine all of your hardware. In the Aida32 REPORT, find that PCI device, and what IRQ it is on, that may be a clue. Most of the time, an additional PCI device will be an additional driver, such as the audio for your US Robotics Modem.
When you can look at the properties of that device with Device Manager, and the REPORT, and know which IRQ it needs, then reboot, and when you get to your second screen, see if you can see that IRQ being used, and if it say a Device ID, a 4 digit number.
Also, I bet you didnt install the chipset drivers first . . . naughty naughty. Be sure to install the Intel or AMD chipset driver pack, and if its Intel, get the Application Accelorator too.
XP is much better at having and finding drivers, so that you dont encounter this sort of problem, and why I warned Janett999 to stay away fro it as an O/S.
wave device for voice modem ?
check your properties to see if you have this.
if not then i dunno the problem
Is it just me or does eXTREME2002 have two mouse pointers?
that can be it beat factory good looking out. maybe that is whats causing the problem. maybe but if both mouse pointing devices are on separate ports then that couldnt be the real issue.
hmm
who knows i wanna see what the problem is though.
It is most likely to be one of the devices that you have already installed, some devices register as 2 seperate devices for some reason in windows, the easiest way around it is to select properys then update driver then direct it to the driver files for each of the devices you have already installed i.e. your soundcard/videocard etc one at a time , with luck it will recognise the driver and install it.
My video card is only 1 pci card but it registers as 2 different devices , i.e. videocard/multimedia input output card, i have a bluetooth card which actually registers as 4 devices - how confusing is that :)
Tip - i have literally put all my device drivers inone directory on a cdr then when i reinstall windows all i do is direct it to that directory for everything.
Not a newbie - How insulting ! just reregistered with new name :(
I've had problems with PCI drivers with Win2K. Pour example, when I install the drivers for my WiFi card, Windows refuses to boot, giving me a STOP message about a certain .SYS file. When I delete/remove/rectify the problem with the said file, it gives another filename! And on...and on...and on...
I could be wrong, but is it possible that your AGP card is being detected as PCI? I think its just an extension of the PCI controller.
Also, I know that some onboard devices (such as onboard sound, LAN, modem, or video) will be detected as PCI.

lol. wouldn't ya know it?
i got an athlon 2500+, and put it in, and windows said it was an unknown pci device. lol. after setting it up, it decided it was a processor :-P

Hi Krell
Thanks a lot for yr tip "installing the Chipset Driver" from Intel. I got the MotherBoard CD again after i have thrown it away a long time ago over the shelves !!!. I didn't expect that this is the problem coz i was trusting Microsoft and thought that WINDOWZZZ 'll install all support necessary 4 my hardware including the Chipsets but as usual - it suxxx !
Anyway thanks Krell and all ya guys who tried to give some ideas
P.S. In response 4 "nasrules" problem. Well i don't know if u 'll like this solution or not but i think that ur problem can be solved if u upgrade to windows XP PRO coz i know very well that they have made a lot of support to WiFi technology in the Operating System's Core.
OR check the Web site of yr PCI maker till they post another updated driver 4 it for win2K.
OR do as i did, Download Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000 Pro if u don't have installed it yet
Advice: Backup, Backup, Backup !!! b4 doing anything just in case u want 2 be back in time.
Good Luck
Maged
By the Way:
If u Krell (or someone else) have seen a working driver for the "Creative Sound Blaster Pci64" card other than that of Microsoft, I'll be glad if u pointed me to it - I visited Creative's site and after a lot of of questions about my card and my OS and confirmation screens, i got a file which was named "SBPCI_WebDrvsV5_12_01" and it didn't contain drivers for the card i was looking for !!!
P.S. Microsoft's own driver for this card suxxx coz on some occasions the sound becomes like corrupted or ... (PS i am not able to express exactly what i hear or feel coz my native language is not English so sorry but i am sure that anyone with this card and windows 2000 'll know what i am talking about)
THANKS AGAIN
