    Sun's java or Microsoft's Java

I'd like 2 know from u Zeropaid users which one is best to get 4 Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 on a Windows 2000 SP4 machine, regarding speed, reliability and security:

    1. Microsoft's JVM
    OR
    2. Sun's JVM

I can't really comment about security and reliability as I've never used the version from Microsoft.
There is, however, an ongoing dispute between Sun Microsystems and Microsoft about the nature of Java deployment on Windows OS's.

Maybe the following will help you make a decision.

Based on the information on that page, I'd choose the version from Sun Microsystems since it seems unsure how Microsoft will implement Java technology.

Sun. They created Java which must mean they know more about it.

We all know what Microsoft does to good things.

Microsoft will stop supporting its version of Java by the end of the year by court order.

while i do agree with you that Sun makes the better version, i disagree with you saying that just because they created it, they know more about it. that may be true, but i guarantee you thats not the case in every situation. for example... do you think linus torvalds (i think thats his name) knows more about linux than say red hat or mandrake? i doubt it.

Well Linus is still involved in the development of the linux kernal (the heart and soul of Linux) Red hat and Mandrake only build their version around the kernal and add extra features, GUI, etc.

While Bill Gates just runs the circus know as Microsoft, he no longer develops crap.

Actually, I've had problems with SunJava. Mainly in java chat rooms, many chat rooms (I know yahoo for one) don't work well with sunjava, and end up looking really fucked up, taking longer to load, and not working correctly. I've never had a problem with the MS version though.

Microsoft have had to stop implementing numerous things. Java is one, embedded ActiveX/Windows Media/Flash is another one (they stole someone else's technology).

For obvious reasons, go with Sun.

microsoft virtual machine.......supports yahoo chat which sunjavas versions do not... (i faced this in XP)

after installing MsVM you can install sunjavs version and disable the same for ie and use it for an alternate broswer like opera, sun java can be made to run with ie later in control pannel options

Microsoft VM = Better Integration Into IE - uses less resources
