Exclamation Longhorn 4051 Out and About

Longhorn build 4051 is currently swimming around the Internet and a it is rummored that a few P2P's already have them. The current build was suppossed to have been leaked as early as october 23 or 24th. Neowin has already posted an small article suggesting a few theories about where and when, etc. and has a few screenshots online. Also John Lettice from the Register, posted an article on the news of the leak and other author-based opinions. There is also a "rumor" that cracks for the build have already been circulating around the internet.

keep in mind (for those who don't know), this is still an alpha build of longhorn. the final product release date is still expected around late 2005 to early 2006.

I tried to install the first leaked build, they still hadn't renamed some parts of the OS from "Windows XP Pro", so I ended up really fucking up my system (my current OS and Longhorn looked the same in while booting up, so I didn't know which one to pick, I picked wrong).

Anyway, I might try one of these sometime...if I'm really bored. I wouldn't recommend using it on the internet though, past builds have had some "talk back" code, I wouldn't be surprised if this does also.

safest way to use it is on a Virtual PC (great software) with networking abilities disabled.

or just unhook your ethernet card :)

Longhorn? Um, no thanks. I think I'll just stick to Windows Server 2003 Enterprise as my one Windows version.

With all the viruses, sercurity holes, and bugs, I'd probably do best to stay away from future builds of Windows. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a Microsoft hater. Their products are great.

However, as long as Windows is 90+% of the market and what people use worldwide, it will always be targeted the most.

Windows isn't the direction I'm going anyways. I am leaning more towards using linux and BSD builds. With future DRM in Windows, people may have less control of what they can do with their computer.

I've tried a few of the older builds like milestone 5 (4024), and seen a few of the ones before that. Imo, the only difference in milestone 5 and the lastest build is a few skin jobs they used. It's rumored to be a little faster than the previous ones as well.

Posting an article on upcoming software is ok.

anything else that implies your using unreleased software at all is not ok.
