bittorrent speeds slow and just help

Hey im kinda new to this bittorrent. Like im good with comps and understand the idea to bittorrent. I've tried all of the programs in the FAQ sticky. I like the azureus and B++ but besides the point. I with find a place with a bittorrent i want and i will click on the link and save target as and then go to azureus and open the torrent everything will start. There is 273 seeders and 2787 leechers. But when it starts to dl it goes at like 1 kb/sec and takes like 200 something hours to get 1.5 gb. and i have like 2.5 mb cable so 1kb/sec is lame. LOL. so what is going on. Is 273 seeders not enough. I have a dlink router and i run norton internet security. I have open the ports 6889-6899. but the speed is still unbaringly slow. So like what else could i try. Thanks in advance. And also what bittorrent proggie do u like best?

You did let it run a for while, right?

In my experience torrents normally start pretty slow but they do speed up(assuming there are a good number of ppl seeding and downloading) after a while.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

I'm running with a server/firewall that has all ports open (its linux and works in a very different way or something). I used to get 20kbs from it on my shared network, but now its going painfully slow. I was getting 50kbs before everyone else arrived this term. Now I'm lucky to get 1kbs. I use BT++ and limit upload to 8kbs, which means I average 5kbs, but this isn't the optimal solution as anyone downloading using kazaa/ares is getting 20+ kbs. I noticed the decline about the time version 3.3 was released.
I therefore feel for you Click and wait for an answer in as much anticipation.
Welcome to ZP by the way!

I'm using Nova Torrent client....try that one if it helps....i get speeds up to 200 Kb/s with Nova Torrent

    MI is right..

i also noticed the same speed issue at the same time 3.3 was released.

i figured i would try it just to see what was new with it..

well right off the bat i noticed it was now a 1:1 deal.

1:1 meaning if you upload at 16k you will download at 16k, at least that was what happened to me, dont know if its actually fact but it was consistent for the 12hrs that i was downloading.

and no i was sitting here for 12hrs watching the time and speed i was doing other things but every once in awhile i would check in and sure enough it was on pace and both up/down speed remained the same.

But I'm uploading at like 10-12kbs, but still no download speed. I can increase my speed slightly by limiting my upload.
A flatmate is still using version 3.2.1 but is getting no better speeds. That could be because everyone else is limiting upload, not the new system limiting download.

Now you've mentioned it Ea$y_E, my upload is going neck and neck with my download, but this isn't usual. I've still got upload limited to 8kbs, its averaging 5kbs/5kbs - which is very good for me.

Try opening up ports 6889 - 6969. Also if you are using Azureus(which is my preference) try limiting the number of people you connect to sometimes i have noticed that it helped. As mentione by previous posters you could always op to try throttling your upload speed it could be saturating your connection. Try putting whatever Bitttorrent client you are using in a DMZ zone. Personally i have never had any trouble with bittorrent clients and my firewall(ZAPro), but you could also try disabling it to see if you notice a boost. And usually your d/l speed is dependant upon others upload speeds so if you are connected to a bunch of people who are throttling their upload there is not much you can do about it. Sometimes the throttling might be unintentional...for example w/ the Azureus client it's default setting is that once you are finished with a torrent and are seeding it switches that torrent into low priority which mens that if you are downloading something else that all the bandwidth available will go to that other torrent. Hope this helps

i got a 3mb download and 256kb upload cable connection and my speeds always differ.i can get as low as 5kbps or as high as 200kbps on bittorrent.there are so many factors that determine speed that it will be very hard to pinpoint.

BitTorrent has become lame since some time. A month ago, the torrents I started had d/l rates at 50 kb/s - immediately. Now it takes hours until they speed up.
I guess, there are much more leechers now.
BitTorrent hast become very famous and so the d/l rates suffer - but this is just a guess.
Perhabs it is the best to avoid Suprnova and get the stuff from one of the many BT forums - less leechers.

All the torrents using our tracker will dissapear until our trackers get back online... All other torrents will stay on the site. I am asking you all, if you are running a tracker and would like to share it with other people, please write me an email ([email protected] (remove NOSPAM when sending emails)). We are really sorry, but there is no other way... We are hoping we will have a new server in next few days and will be able to move traffic there!

P.S. No this doesnt mean SuprNova is shutting down, just that some torrents will be removed from the site for few days.
Perhaps the trackers are at their limits. Would that explain the poor speeds?

    lmao... :playboy

    I use BitTorrent++ 0.5.4 GUI, and I get anywhere from 5-250kb/sec.
There are so many things you have to take into consideration however, so my download speed varies greatly.
I just set my downloads, and leave them alone... lol

I tried to download.torrent files for the first time from Shareaza and I never thought that it's more faster than eDonkey files.
