Question eMule IP Filter = Less Sources?

Ever since I used an IP filter for eMule I notice that haven't been getting all the sources.

If I run a search I might get 10 sources for file. When I try and download the file I get 3 sources.

Do you guys use an IP filter? Do you notice that you have been getting less sources with the IP filer on?

Why would you run a filter?

the ip-filter used in emule is the equivalent of the shareaza security patch/update, its used to block bad sources and spy-der clients.

and yes you do get fewer sources if they are the ones being filtered out. i would just use a net resource such as sharereactor who have plenty of sources per file, sometimes ranging to 1000+ sources if any of those are filtered out then theres plenty more sources left.

The problem is rare files don't have many sources!

well, hopefully at least, the ip filter will only filter out addresses with bogus files anyways. as stated above, you will get less sources overall. it sounds like you've got a good handle on it but for any and all interested this is a great link for info on both what ip filtering is and how to do it: http://www.emule-project.net/board/i...howtopic=10128

additionally, theyve got links to bad ip lists and such for emule that are regularly (mostly) updated.
