bandwidth monitor

i've finally got broadband, and i need a program that will monitor how much bandwidth im using so i won't exceed my monthly limit.could someone please tell me of a good free program.thankyou in advance to all those that comment.

I personally use Winbar. It does much more than monitor/keep track of my D/U. It shows RAM usage, CPU, Volume control, winamp controls, Computer Uptime, time/date/atomic clock, hd usage, news headlines, ETC. Great program.

Something that concerns me is CPU temperature. The air coming out of the back of my comp sometimes is real warm, and the cooling fan runs real fast. Is there any way to keep tabs on it? It's a pentium 4, so it should shut down if it gets too hot. But I would still like to know.

Hey Shawners, we're both in Dallas, so let me tell you a secret.... Comcast (Cable) and SBC (DSL) dont have bandwidth limits. It may not be the fastest upload connection in the world, but hey, you dont have to disconnect when you use the net too much! :fire

netlimiter will both tell you how much you've up/downloaded and allow you to limit bandwidth for specific programs or people.

I use Netmeter. It is basically a copy of DUMeter but it is freeware. Get it at http://readerror.gmxhome.de/ I have tried many freeware bandwidth monitors and I think this one is by far the best for my needs (which is real-time monitoring). It is bug-free, works on many Windows operating systems, and has useful features but not too much complication.

However, it's one drawback is that it does not store logs of bandwidth useage - so if your computer crashes, you won't know how much bandwidth you have already used.

There is a program called CPUcool that does that, or check with the maker of your motherboard, I have an Asus and they have their own free program.


For the topic of this forum, part of the problem with a cable modem is that its always communicating back with the main servers so even when your not using it, there's bandwith going through it, so I also reccomend if your modem has a power button to turn it off while not in use, its also better for secuity, nobody can hack your machine if its not connected to the internet.

exactly you can also use a firewall and block any inbound and outbound traffic when u dont want to be connected to the net but the most logical thing to do is turn off the modem.

lol, bandwidthmonitorpro looks like a blatant ripoff of AnalogX.com 's Netstat Live.

Netstat live is the proggie I use for such purposes. Its free, and works great on the systems I've tried it on. Heres their description of what it does.
