since yesterday,my downloads on winmx have slowed way,way down, and even though i have just 56k connction,i usually get prettyfast downloading from it,real good actually.this was a sudden change.and i can have noone uploadig from me at all but its just as slow.i have noticed that some of my downloads outside of winmx have slowed too,but not nearly as much as my winmx downloads.does anyone have any ideas on whats causig this and if it can be corrected?thanks
Well, it could be a lot of things. First, I'd try another p2p app - it could just be the people you were downloading from. I get nice speeds in Kazaa, and I also use dialup.
If that doesn't work, try disabling software that uses the Internet. For example, I found that the newest version of AIM (5.2) seems to suck up all my bandwidth, but 5.1 doesn't. Get a good firewall (the free version of ZoneAlarm, www.zonelabs.com, will do fine), and only allow WinMX access to the Internet, but no other programs.
If you're still having problems, it could be your phone line. I think you can contact your phone conpany and they can test your phone line for free, but I'm not 100% sure on that one. Otherwise, if you click on the Internet connection in the task bar, it'll list the speed you're at. If you divide that number by 8, that'll give you the maximum speed in KB/sec that you can download at.
its either one of the two a real techinical issue where it is a physical connection problem between you and you're ISP...or the other hand Winmx isnt all that great to begin with and download speed with any p2p app depends on the amout of sources available if any and how much upload b/w they provide available for use.
