File Sharing behind a secure network

Hi guys,
Having recently moved to University, and finally sorted out a connection to the network, i cant seem to connect to ANY p2p program i try!!! ive tried: Kazaa Lite, Shareaza, Blubster, Morpheus, Freenet, etc, etc... having done a bit of looking around, if found out that the university network is part of JANET, an Educational network based in the UK, and according to their website, they have blocked p2p filesharing!!!!

does anyone have any ideas how to get around this???? are there other file sharing programs that do not use the ports stated in their website???
please help!!!!

The first thing I'd recommend is to start saving for an off-campus apartment. College is so much better in your own place. In the mean time, I can't help much, as I was last in the dorms before such things as JANET were born. I'm sure there are some ways to try using different ports.

Well the latest kazaa lite isn't supposed to use port 1214 as it is so easily detected. You could try Ares, it seems to be an up and coming network that worked for the last person who was blocked by their university.

hey, thanks for the help guys, unfortunately both kazaa lite and Ares are not working either. I see that ur also a student in Southampton Malicious Intent - how did you manage to get round it this / last year?

You're a student at Southampton uni? Or by also do you just mean the student part?
Anyway, when I was in halls for my first year (I'm just starting my third) we didn't have broadband in our rooms, just dail-up. A couple of people had laptops that they used to plug into the network on campus, there was no restrictions. I believe rooms got broadband the year that I moved out. As far as I've heard the university doesn't block p2p in rooms now. They definately don't block it on campus.
